Did some searching and while that mod is no longer in development there are 2 new Star Wars mods being worked on, both look promising. http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?190840-Star-Wars-Imperial-Assault-Upcoming-Star-Wars-Mod http://forums.bistudio.com/showthre...-A-New-Order-FHS-Star-Wars-Total-Modification
the new star wars battlefront game sounds kinda subpar compared to past ones. missing alot of stuff. so if it adds all that probably a shit ton of expensive DLC.
Me flying a gunship on patrol with AI gunner. See flessar's ATAT on rader. Target is 3 km out, closing. Duck behind hill to avoid detection, fly around behind, maintain distance. Pop up from behind hill 2km from target, lock on. Launch 2x missiles into flessar's giant robot ass. BOOM Fly home, send flessar an email: Giant ass robots do not work in a practical army.
/me watches as 2x missiles explode into giant robot ass, and robot keeps walking, since earth missiles could probably not hurt Starwars metals.
Well in the books some major in the empire actually does state that AT-ATs are impractical but the fear factor is worth it. though why you would fear something that can't shoot at you if you are at it's feet I don't know. also it was only the blasters on the snowspeeders that couldn't hurt at-ats. those on an x-wing could being much more powerful. they wouldn't even need to use proton torps. still awesome looking.
They aren't meant for close assaults, they are basically direct fire artillery or a Tank destroyer even. And just like those weapons, anything designed to take out a tank, will take them down given enough time. However they were shielded, enough so that it took weapons designed to harm/kill frigates to guarantee harm to them. Anything less powerful then that would require a very good approach angle, and an inattentive co-pilot who was in charge of the shield settings/radar monitoring. Are they used as close assault weapons? Sure, same way there are idiots that fire 203 rounds at things that are 10 meters away. Blast radious on those things are nearly 20 meters. Used properly and used with the AT-AA mobile platform they can be reasonably secure. They aren't invulnerable any more then a modern day MBT is to insurgents.
