I take it you're not a big fan of the Steam Trading Card system then? But I tend to agree. I've personally never seen the point of things like that but some people seem to like them so oh well. It doesn't really bother me unless it's forced upon me.
I tend to get annoyed at achievements that aren't even close to being an... well achievement however. Don't give me an achievement for completing the tutorial you patronizing bastard!
But if the achievements are visible at a glance and have a clear purpose: like this guys has over 500 drops in CTF and has is a master marksman with AC/10 (or skill of currently loaded weapons). Then it might serve a purpose in giving some indication of the skill of a player. At a glance I mean -> icon or different color in mech name and weapons in loadout or something. And it wouldn't even be against the lore as the book describe databases of mechwarriors so they could be studied when encoutered in field. But if the Achievement is "Isiga Död - died in every sector of Frozen city", I don't see the point of them.

Agreed. I like the cheevos when they are actually challenging to... achieve. Also, I like cheevos that encourage you to do something really unusual or funny.
Agreed. Gief acheivements that are actually hard to do, so they mean something. In MWO, something like getting 6 kills in a match, and 8 kills in a match. Getting 1000+ damage. Solo killing an enemy without taking any damage. Acheivements that just shows you've played a lot aren't that interesting.
