Sins of a Solar Empire Campaign Interest Thread

    Hi all.

    I know a few people here have Sins of a Solar Empire. For those who don't know, it's a real-time space strategy game with 4X elements and it's really fun.

    I was considering (since I have nothing better to do in this INCREDIBLY STRESSFUL holiday period :p) designing some sort of campaign if people are interested. Basically I'd like to see how many people might want to get involved, with which faction and then work out a series of branching scenarios, each being an individual game on a preselected map, perhaps with certain modifiers (penalty for losing the last battle by a certain margin might mean the other player gets a 5-minute headstart, for instance).

    The campaign would preferably be story-driven based on official fluff and backstory, what the story is exactly I still have to work out but probably something along the lines of the Vasari invading space occupied by the Advent and TEC, then some of the Vasari players would go Rebel and possibly ally with the TEC Loyalists and/or Advent Rebels, for instance, while the Vasari Loyalists band together and start trying to wipe everyone out and leave the system before they're caught by whatever's chasing them.

    So yeah. Anyone interested? I'd like to get all the replies in by the end of next week (Sunday 8th) so I can start planning the campaign and we can hopefully run it towards the end of September, possibly crossing over into October depending on how big we want to make this and how many people want to get involved. :)

    I would definitely be up for it. I think it would be fun, I do not know a whole lot about the storyline. It would be cool to have a large scale tactical map and work it from there.

    I usually play as the Advent, though for the life of me I can't remember which group. Rebels, I think.

    I will be helping Dethwatch on this project. This is what I came up with off the top of my head. ALL ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE!:

    Advent Loyalists: The Zealots
    • No diplomatic restrictions with other Advent Loyalists (may start as ally).
    • Can establish a Cease Fire Accord with Vasari Loyalists.
    • Can establish a Trade Alliance with Vasari Loyalists.
    • Can only claim planets within Advent influence (remember that this can be expanded).


    Advent Rebels: The Seekers
    • No diplomatic restrictions with other Advent Rebels (may start as ally).
    • Can establish a Cease Fire Accord with TEC Loyalists and Vasari Rebels.
    • Can establish a Trade Alliance with TEC Loyalists and Vasari Rebels.
    • Can establish a Peace Treaty with TEC Loyalists and Vasari Rebels.
    • Can establish a Ship Vision Pact with Vasari Rebels.
    • Can establish a Planet Vision Pact with Vasari Rebels.
    • Can only claim planets within Advent influence (remember that this can be expanded).
    • Cannot attack a non-Advent faction unless previously attacked by faction or assisting an ally.


    TEC Loyalists: The Isolationists
    • No diplomatic restrictions with other TEC Loyalists (may start as ally).
    • Can establish a Cease Fire Accord with Advent Rebels, TEC Rebels, and Vasari Rebels.
    • Can establish a Trade Alliance with Advent Rebels and Vasari Rebels.
    • Can establish a Peace Treaty with Advent Rebels and Vasari Rebels.
    • Can establish a Ship Vision Pact with Vasari Rebels.
    • Can establish a Planet Vision Pact with Vasari Rebels.
    • May only claim one planetoid in any star system that does not contain the faction's homeplanet.
    • Cannot attack a faction unless previously attacked by faction or assisting an ally.


    TEC Rebels: The Xenophobes
    • No diplomatic restrictions with other TEC Rebels (may start as ally).
    • Can establish a Cease Fire Accord with TEC Loyalists.
    • Cannot destroy pirate bases.


    Vasari Loyalists: The Harbingers
    • No diplomatic restrictions with other Vasari Loyalists (may start as ally).
    • Can establish a Cease Fire Accord with Advent Loyalists and Vasari Rebels.
    • Can establish a Trade Alliance with Advent Loyalists.
    • Cannot control more than 4 planetoids at any one time (remember to use the "Scorched Earth" ability).


    Vasari Rebels: The Farseers
    • No diplomatic restrictions with other Vasari Rebels (may start as ally).
    • Can establish a Cease Fire Accord with Advent Rebels, TEC Loyalists, and Vasari Loyalists.
    • Can establish a Trade Alliance with with Advent Rebels and TEC Loyalists.
    • Can establish a Peace Treaty with Advent Rebels and TEC Loyalists.
    • Can establish a Ship Vision Pact with Advent Rebels and TEC Loyalists.
    • Can establish a Planet Vision Pact with Advent Rebels and TEC Loyalists.
    • If claiming more than 4 planetoids, cannot exceed by more than two the number of planetoids claimed by an ally (if ally owns 5, this faction can own 7).
    • Cannot attack a non-Vasari faction unless previously attacked by faction or assisting an ally.


    Mercenaries: The Hired Guns
    • Must be a Rebel faction.
    • Starts with a Cease Fire Accord with all factions.
    • Can establish a Trade Alliance with all factions.
    • Can only claim territory in homeplanet's star system.
    • May only attack another faction under a contract.
    • Intended as a "wildcard" faction.


    *"Planetoids" are considered anything that you can build structures on. Dead Asteroids and Pirate Bases are exceptions to this rule. Resource extractor locations and starbases do not count either.
    **"Coalition Victory" is a specific scenario where Advent Rebels, TEC Loyalists, and Vasari Rebels must form an alliance in order to survive their enemies.

    Not really. TEC Loyalists can build two starbases at every gravity well... even in territory they don't technically control. Consider that they also can add shipyards to these starbases... they can rebuild their fleets almost anywhere as long as they have a starbase up. Also, remember that they are the only faction that can build structures at dead asteroids... these don't count as "planetoids"! Furthermore, the TEC Loyalists don't need to CLAIM territory to rake in the profits as long as they have trade partners that will let them build trade/shipyard starbases in their territory. It fits with their "we want your money, but not your land" mindset.

    ...I like this idea..I love this idea :D I will gladly stand by my fellow Tec loyalists and defend our systems as we have waves of Vasari crashing against our starbases/defense formations at the same time as trying to repell the ever pushing Advent's culture!

    There is a mod out that may help us out abit since it may be heavy use of the planetary fortress as well as massive fleets, http://www.moddb.com/mods/kogs-law is a mod that changes alot of things, some big things are that there are NO super weapons, planetary fortresses have massive range, almost being able to shoot anyone in any gravity well. The only strike crafts availiable are from carriers and fortresses, no more light carriers or hanger defenses. ...Also the pirates are buffed out! or you can get a weaker pirate type one. It is alot of fun and makes it more about battles then say...TC hiding behind fortresses with just super weapons.

    I would be happy to test it out. Question is... when and how dedicated are you guys? This might take awhile to get sorted out. I have school + work + megamek responsibilities to consider. I still want to do this, but try to be patient with me on it. I think if we can commit at least 4-6 hours a week we can make some good headway on it.

    I can also show you guys how to use some of the more obscure features in the full map editor. Knowing how to use it makes it not overly difficult to approximate campaigns or objective based missions.

    Hell yeah! How about Vasari not starting with any planets, but with a certain number of colonisation ships as well as a slightly larger fleet than everyone else?

    Alright, i'll see you guys then! Side note, that mod takes away most of the mines for the game too, so we cant just minefield ourselves away. Though combining two star bases, while owning that planet/astroid/area so to build repair platforms and gauss platforms is deadly. Since it is in a allied/Owned zone, we would get our fraction special for militia armor/weapons to the star bases...and well....the platforms are self explanatory :D
