Hey all just wondering what u all recommend for a good AV program. I have 3 different pc to put something on so obviously I am looking for a good deal there. I have used Kasperkey, Norton, and Mcaffee in the past and really did not like norton or mcaffee. They seemed to slow my pcs down and basically overrun my pc with "security measures". I mainly play games and browse the internet and do not do a lot of High risk things like music downloads and torrents etc. Any thoughts would be great.
I've been using ESET nod32 for several years. Not many problems with it interfering with legit stuff and runs pretty much on its own.
Avast is also decent for a free program. You can 'upgrade' for some money, but the free basic is really all you need. Other than that, Windows Firewall actually catches a good deal of stuff too.
X2 on Avast. I run that and then also do a scan with malwarebytes occasionally for backup. I highly recommend malwarebytes as a malware remover btw. Its a really good thing to keep on a jump drive just in case (some of the browser hijack viruses are really nasty, and you pretty much have to use a jump drive to run any sort of antivirus).
MSE works fine, has a small foot print and free. It detects spyware and viruses, as well as update through window's updates. One of the few redeeming qualities of Win 8, is it comes built in with MSE.
I used to use AVG free on all my computers, but it was interfering with something on my laptop and wouldn't let me login to the wireless network at school. I was also having problems with it allowing multiplayer in some game (I can't even remember which now), so I switched to MSE. I find it much more game-friendly than norton, mc afee, etc. Those programs are always the first preinstalled programs that I uninstall from any computer.
Oh, I guess I also should add that a really effective way to avoid viruses is to NOT use IE. There are plenty of viruses that will attack more than one browser, but the vast majority are still aimed at IE. I use Firefox, there are others out there also(I've heard good things about Chrome, but it basically exists as a tool to help google gather information on you).
