Hi all , is anyone playing DayZ Standalone ? Im geared up and currently around Berezino Not much to do in the game atm ... other then finding someone to shoot at... Im still not done with my exploring of the map and will continue doing that the next days / weeks. Mostly playing at EU night times. If you want to team up contact me
understandable with the lack of things to do there I think once you can actually build bases it will get more interesting. Like DayZ Epoch that was quite fun
My incredibly low pain threshold for internet douchery generally means I can't play games like DayZ without table flipping. Unfortunately. Because the concept does seem cool.
I co-host a private DayZ Epoch server that Tehnk, Porama, and myself play on, along with 5-6 other players. If anyone would like the server info, shoot me a PM. Players are assumed friendly unless hostile intentions are made clear, and bases are safe zones unless you make the first move against someone from your base. Had a lot of fun with Epoch so far; scavenged 3 HMMWVs and made a 3-car garage with a 2nd story defense zone and a 3rd story helipad for my Littlebird. Working on a perimeter wall with a lockable gate right now, but the harvesting of matierals takes a while! I also play standalone, but I try to play friendly and try to help out new players. Right now I'm kitted out and in Berezhino scavenging for more food/water and Blood Bag/Saline IVs. I'd love to play with some SoR, but I won't resort to banditry. If you guys don't know already, the standalone has an incredibly realistic, detailed and complex health system that is already implemented and running in the background. I made a playlist to some vids describing everything very well: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL1anSV49dMdD61HirUEFovpxzvOzGLF_P After I learned this info, I've had no problem staying alive and winning nearly all my gunfights.
Sheo, it's like I willed you to voice my own opinions perfectly. I want to like it, but I just know how much time I'd feel was wasted because of 17 year old billy, who has to take out his pent up sexual frustration by supplementing his furious masturbation to tribal national geographic photos with griefing people in a video game where he is essentially rewarded for being an ass.
This is why it's fun though! I approach DayZ as a roguelike not an MMO; you WILL die, the fun is in seeing how long you can survive and how much you can do before it happens. The game facilitates great stories on its own too, whether you win or lose, sometimes amazing things happen.
Like david just coming across some random guy walking along the street handcuffing him and force feeding him some rotten fruit to see how long it would take the guy to die. What a dick.
I will most likely pick up the stand-alone eventually, but I'm probably going to wait for a full release. I've got a large enough backlog of games as it is.
I've enjoyed it the last few days. Improvement over the mod in many ways, even if it's lacking a lot of content still. The whole health/food/drink/energy mechanic is awesome.
Fair enough, I figured the Daedric Prince of Madness would be all about this kind of game. If you ever change your mind though, let me know! I'd be enthused to show you around!
Wow. Ok. I read the sales figures. This was already something I have been interested in trying. I never did though because I didn't want to buy the AARMA3 game just to play this mod. But, I am looking for a PVE/PVP game that has some smart mechanics so it's not just grief / respawn /grief etc.. Without having to find a FAQ, can you give me some bullet points about this new stand alone and what makes it cool and/or different from the mod or the (failed?) MMO WarZ (renamed to something else debacle) Folks say "lack of content"? Well it *is* early early alpha, as the Devs has explicitly broadcast. Are there not any NPC zombies in the new game yet? Please convince me to download this. I could be very interested. I think the mechanics, challenge and pace of this game could interest me.
There are NPC zombies. Enough to be dangerous when you have no weapon, or only melee. Not enough to take down someone properly armed. Unless you get swarmed. Love the standalone have just over 60h played. Rolling through Cherno in a group of 6 decked to the nines hunting bandits is awsome!
1) Actually, the mod requires ARMA2 and ARMA2:OA expansion, you can get them both in the ArmA2:CA pack for $25USD. (Just FYI) 2) PvE, in the scarcity of zombies, currently boils down to the survival mechanics, which are absolutely amazing, quite realistic, and are constantly affecting your character. You could focus 100% on the survival aspects of the game and enjoy it immensely in its current state, but only if you understand the survival mechanics, which all take place "under the hood" to maintain immersion and relism. (Link to some great videos about the DayZ:SA survival mechanics: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL1anSV49dMdD61HirUEFovpxzvOzGLF_P ) PvP is the main focus for most players currently, and is also excellent. No FPS captures the tension and lethality of a firefight or possibility of a firefight like the ArmA engine does. There is a complex item durability and modification focus on DayZ:SA that wasn't in the mod, which allows you to build your own assault rifle from various rail attachments, scopes, etc. all with their own durability and effect on performance. The downside to this is that there are currently only 2 receivers in the game, the M4 and Mosin-Nagant. Bullets have realistic ballistics and your character's accuracy is modeled pretty realistically as well; if you sprint around and try to stop quick to take a shot, your aim will be all over the place from heavy respiration. Firing while moving and from an unsupported position is also inaccurate and usually only done at point blank range. Sprinting causes you to lower your gun, and it takes a second to bring it back up to your shoulder. These mechanics favor gunfighters who are situationally aware, tactical, and methodical; there are no twitch 360 no scope fucked your mom cod kiddies succeeding here. The SA gets a lot of bad rep I think from all the videos circulating with captured, handcuffed players being abused and such, but these activities are nowhere near as pervasive as it seems in the actual game. Not only does the capturing player have to be point blank with you, it takes a few seconds to get out the handcuffs and use them, so any situation where someone is captured, they had alternatives. Not to mention, unless the kidnapper has a big group of players with him (and you're going to die if you're alone anyways), he leaves himself incredibly vulnerable while securing you. 3) +Much more beautiful large-scale graphics +More detailed and realistic health mechanics +MUCH more manageable inventory system +Hundreds more enterable and lootable buildings +Updated map with better spawn zones and loot "flow" -No vehicles implemented yet -Zombies are basically placeholders -Lack of weapon variety 4) Zombies are in the game but their density is purposefully left low since they're still pretty buggy. However, the zombies do operate much better than the mod, which you basically need to exploit weaknesses in scripting to fight (hiding under chopper rotors, invisible wall through hospital glass, their slow walking indoors, etc.)
According to http://www.dayztv.com/standalone/dayz-server-hive-hosting/ (which appears to paraphrase Rocket a few times) we'll see server files for the SA come launch. For now, it's all public and only hosted by the 'big' providers (GameServers/Vilayer/etc). I'll definitely be putting this on DasServer as soon as the files become available. As for playing the SA? I've been bug hunting, but not really pushing it with PvP or even Zack. Just finding environmental and gameplay quirks. Like: Force-feeding someone a bag of rice makes them eat the whole bag. Which is bad. Especially after they filled up on water. Removing pants sometimes removes your legs. If only it worked for all the other pieces of gear. Those random zombie groans, screams, and growls you hear out in the middle of the woods and you know you're alone? Rabbits. Seriously.
