I prefer to drape myself in the dripping flesh of the living rather than rotted husks. Although there is a certain appeal
I started playing this last night, I like how the game looks and the combat is fun. i am currently a whole 4 lvls.
In germany Zenimax has just been sewed for asking the credit card details in order to play the free month... wonder how that will play out in the end
Honestly i never met with situation were firm expects that you give them your personal information just to be able to test demo of their product.
It isn't in demo state any more, it is released. I'm pretty sure every single pay MMO I have ever played, and there are a lot, require you to set up your monthly payment plan immediately
It's the same with Netflix. You have to give your credit card info for the free month trial. Germany has weird business laws, so I'm not too surprised I guess.
Personally I'm on Germany's side in this one, it's a stupid practice, it encourages dishonest and shady business practices simply by being the accepted norm. There is absolutely no good reason why you should have to put forth personal information for a free transaction, except so that the company can then -charge you money- should you happen to not actively disable the subscription package before the time allotted passes by. It thereby encourages scam companies to promise you free shit to get your credit information and consequently leads to all sorts of illicit businesses that offer absolutely nothing for free, but claim they do, hoping the individual will simply be oblivious enough not to notice they're getting charged.
Heres the thing: you aren't demoing anything. It is a game that, as it stands presently, requires a monthly payment to play. Thus, one would assume that if you choose to pay for the initial purchase of the game itself, you acknowledge and have intention of paying the accompanying subscription fee. While not everyone may do that, I think that's pretty sound logic for a business to use/ design payment setup over. Furthermore, if you don't notice you're being charged a monthly fee for a subscription based product, then you have some god awful financial habits. That's not shady business; that's a lack of personal responsibility with your finances.
And Google Fiber requires that I pay an activation fee for my internet connection prior to having my home hooked up, while Veracity (my previous provider) did not. A difference in business practice hardly constitutes criminal behavior.
We are not talking about bought product but demo, needles hoarding of data is dangerous. I doubt bethesda, zenimax or whoever hosts their servers spends enough on security to guarantee safety of users data.
But it isn't a demo... The "free month" is the first 30 days that comes with the purchase of the game. It isn't free at all
