Please please please let us know when they get a better co-op system in. I will probably start playing when it does.

nice, thanks for the thoughts! have they implemented the big battles they hinted at between the big factions in the early videos? can you impact their control over a system (or is that kind of stuff still coming down the pipeline?)

also, yahtzee's review of it got posted yesterday for those interested

a lot of things are still bare boned, but currently in a star system that has stations, either the large inside docking stations that can handle all current ships to the smaller outposts that can handle only small and medium sized ships, there will be between 1-6 different political factions that are aligned with the Federation, the Empire, the Alliance or the Independants. by taking missions from the bulletin board for these different factions you not only gain reputation with them, you can also gain reputation with the major factions that they are affiliated with. also when you successfully complete missions for those system factions, they gain influence inside that particular system, if their influence becomes a majority they can then enter into a state of civil war and try to wrest control of the system.

When/if a civil war occurs, it is possible that the major factions that the smaller system factions are affiliated with may send a fleet into the system to either help the revolution or to try and squash it , depending on if the faction is trying to gain control or retain it. there have already been a dozen , or more, systems that have flipped from one major faction to another as system factions gain/lose control.

we have even seen system factions gain so much influence inside a single system that they then turn their eyes towards expanding their influence ( and the major faction that they are affiliated with) into neighboring systems, there have been a few system factions already that have risen from minor influence in a system ( 1-10% influence) to become the controlling faction in not only the system they started in, but also 1-3 neighboring systems as well.

in other news, a post by one of the leading developers has announced that they will be implementing new co-op features in the upcoming patch 1.2 ( which will begin beta testing in March-ish) since i am a Beta tester i will be one of the people testing that feature and will update with my impressions as they occur.

I really like the look of Elite: Dangerous, but I think I'm with the group that says they'll hold off until more is implemented. I just can't justify paying $60 for a game that many are saying still feels incomplete. Definitely interested though, and will be watching from afar in the upcoming months.

the trade run i have been doing for the last few weeks in my type-7 (A Full on dedicated Cargo ship) had dried up (note i also had a fully tweaked out 12 million credit Cobra for pew-pew fun) and i thought i would pack up and move to a new system.. but then i remembered another trade run i had discovered when i owned a Asp... it went to a outpost.. but since my type-7 wouldn't fit ( a Type-7 cargo ship is classified as a large ship and outposts can only accommodate ships up to medium size) i discontinued making that run.. so i jumped into my Cobra and flew out there.. and found the prices were not only good, but better than i remembered... alas, a cobra load of these goods just wouldn't measure up to the income i needed. so with a sad heart i grabbed a few (as long as i was here i might as well make a bit of profit) and flew back towards my home base, thinking about how i was going to move my ships to the new system... should i fly one there, buy a sidey and come back for the other selling the sidey ( common name for the sidewinder starter ship) in the process, or would i just sell one of my ships and just relocate all at once.

i landed at my station and decided to check the ship yard. i knew they had a python for sale... and when i clicked on it, i noticed it was only a few million more than what i had if i used my type-7 as a trade in... i decided i needed a beer.

after sitting and enjoying a beer whilst mulling over the situation, i sold the goods i had grabbed from the outpost... 1400+ credits profit per ton.. i made my decision. i went to the outfitters, and stipped the cobra to the bare bones... then swapped over to the type-7, and sold the cobra husk( bye bye babe... we sure left our mark on a fair share of pythons and anacondas) .

i then stripped the type-7 down to its lowest settings.... and with a tremor in my heart... clicked the Buy now with trade in , on a brand new shiny python.

i had 12 million credits left... base insurance costs was an immediate 2.4 million credits... i went into the outfitters and re-bought the Class "A"5 FSD unit i had originally had installed in my type-7... 5.6 million gone.... i dropped the size 6 shields and rebought the class "A"3 shields i had installed on the Cobra.... 1.6 million credits gone..... i grabbed 3x 64 ton cargo racks... 1.2 million gone. i then installed 2x32 ton racks .. 230k credits gone... i bumped up the power distribution... bumped up the thrusters ... and a few other goodies.... i then grabbed a full load of the product i needed to make a good trade at the outpost..

at this point i nervously looked over at my right panel.... 1083 credits to my name.... insurance rebuy costs... 3.3 million credits.

    This gonna be fun.

    Kamikaze Trading at its finest.

*Note... if you lose your ship in Elite.. you have to pay the insurance deductible out of pocket. if you dont have enough cash to cover it... , well lets just say the term "Shit outta luck" comes to mind.:viking:

quite a few people here in this gaming group know that i have severe spinal issues... pinched nerves sometimes make it difficult for me to do normal things. and since i am allergic to most pain medications, i sometimes have to resort to the oldest pain killer of all....

    Alcohol

so today wasnt the best of days, so i decided to imbibe a few alcoholic drinks to numb the pain, and after awhile (read 4 shots of bourbon ) i started feeling not so bad anymore. as i'm sitting at my desk... i hear a whisper in my left ear.... "Play Elite".

its been a couple days since my last time in Elite, so this sounds like a pretty decent idea... ( note at this time i
haven't even questioned where that voice came from)
I fire up Elite.. turn on Track Ir5... fire up "Voice attack", move the side table with my CH Fighter stick next to my chair.. and slide my seat between the side tables and
position my pedals to the perfect angle.

Once i'm in Elite.. i do as i always have... i check the traffic report. Today i notice that there are quite a few other "Real people" in the system i have decided to call my temporary home. i check the local commodity prices and see that they are way down from what i consider normal..... Grrrrrr.

Damn interlopers have found my base of operations and have flattened out the market.

oh well, this isnt the first time this has happened, so i open the Galactic map, activate a few filters, and start looking for a new home. i find a
interesting looking area about 120 Ly's from my current location... it has what i call the trifecta setup. a Large population Extraction system, a HUGE Industrial system, and a large High tech system... plus as an added bonus... the extraction system is a unregulated Anarchy system (which has an added bonus of scaring away most other traders).... so, i make my decision to relocate... not a problem.

i figure out the route i need to fly... and tell the station that i want to launch... as my Ship is being transported out of the hangar, i feel an immense presence next to me, which is kinda funny as to my left is the side table with my throttle on it, and next to that is a wall.

As my ship is maneuvered into position.. i ready everything... the station releases the docking clamps.. and i feather my maneuvering thrusters to raise me off the landing pad. i aim my ships nose towards the exit... then i hear the words of BORF, he tells me to leave the station in style.

HAHAHAHA, yeah Baby, lets do this. i shove the throttle against the firewall... and as my fingers click the boost button... i hear
Borf again, he roars in laughter and calls me a noob. as a puzzled expression crosses my face, i notice a Hauler class small ship launch from his landing pad and without even looking... thrust right into my path.... i clip him and we both go careening out of control. he explodes in mid air. and in horror i see that i am heading right at the bulkhead...

I try to pull up... yeah, that
doesn't work... my 68 million credit ship slammed into the wall at nearly 300 Meters per second..... i hear the ships AI scream out.. "Shields Offline... Eject..Eject" as my ship starts to detonate around me

Long story short.... i crashed my expensive ship and blew up.... Dont drink and fly guys.

I actually started E: D properly this week.
Have been exploring in my Cobra (complimentary with Mercenary pack I bough when E: D was being kickstarted) and doing some pirate hunting and trading on the side. Gonna stick to my Cobra for a while but Asp is my long term plan. My ultimate goal is to travel to center of galaxy with Asp.
    Liking it so far.
They have work to do still, but I'm happy being a backer.
Landing on planets and walking on space stations are the things I'm looking forward to atm.

    EDIT:
Also, if The Hunter turns out good I could switch to it too.

I have been planning on SC.. but I might just get this instead and buy SC in a couple of years when they get their game together.

    Me want.

Especially since I figured out how to utilize my desktop so I can play from any computer in the house. Steam streaming, holy shit. Can play the latest games on full settings with a fucking laptop with integrated graphics card! :D

I've said this before and I still think E: D and SC can coexist without any major problems.
They focus on slightly different things in their gameplay.

SC is meant to be played with friends in relatively smaller but very vibrant and charismatic "space opera" world.

In E: D you are more of a lone-wolf/freelancer who mostly works alone, trying to make their living in the empty void of space.
I like to call E: D a "non romantic" space game.
E: D also reminds me a bit of I-War 2. If you've played it you probably know what I mean. Space travel feels very mundane.
I'm quite sure SC will feel quite similar when the Public Universe starts running.

Both games concepts appeal to me greatly.

Kind of OT but I still don't really know much about being 'crew'. If I play for 2 hours, I place myself on someone else's ship and since I live on different timezone I don't get contact with the ship's owner, I spend my two hours in the ship and that was my day. Like I said I have no clue as to how it's supposed to work but I would expect it to feel more rewarding for someone with more time to play and who was better able to play in the same TZ as others. 90% of the time I see 2-4 people online and they're not playing SC.

But all that said, I suspect it will be a different world when SC gets more finished.

For me, right now, paying ~50€ for a shitty starter ship "and that's it" or getting an actual game.. And a game where it doesn't appear to bother as much that I can't really connect with others that well.. Shit. I think it's a no brainer - today. I'm not seeing SC suddenly having trade and everything before summer. I don't think just looking at arena and hangar alone is going to keep me occupied until SC really gets going.

Who knows, I might switch over completely to SC later, but right now it's just not a very appealing option. I'm actually struggling to get just one of the two.

just fyi, you can still pick up AMD omega codes on /r/starcitizentrades for around $30-35. it wont give you full backer status until you buy something, anything, at the RSI store (lots of $5 options, including upgrading the Omega to an Avenger, which would be my suggestion), but the package is "worth" $70 so it's still a really cheap way to get into the game (the Omega and Gamma are essentially identical). the prices will likely fluctuate over the next few days, as the codes from the AMD promotion are only good through 1/31/2015 so people will be scrambling to pick them up last minute while the sellers are offloading their inventory. I've bought 2 codes through that subreddit over the past month, it's super easy. that being said, as much as I love AC right now the depressingly long load times are preventing me from fully scratching my long-awakened space itch and I'm finding it increasingly difficult to resist picking up ED...

i know, right? hell with the current sale going on you could, starting with a omega, get a superhornet package for, like, $145. the standalone superhornet costs $165 straight up. an omega to cutlass black would run $80! but anyways, thats enough derailment from this guy :)
