I love that book so much.

 

pretty much. we get almost nothing and people freak out. when we are forecasted to get maybe an inch of snow or ice (maybe 2) people go nuts and grocery stores get wiped out of stock. especially dry goods. also most north carolinians forget how to drive in any inclement weather. including rain.

 

I hope they're drinking maple syrup... I haven't had any for months! (I gained 10kg over two years and now I'm trying to downscale on the energy reserves)


Btw, over here people go nuts and empty stores if it reads on the news that shops will be closed for one day, people are immediately like "holy shit, I need 2 months of food reserves!".

And yes, despite being subarctic place, people do that same shit here. When it rains they will drive 60km/h on 80km/h zone etc... on a straight road!

My favorite however are people who start messing with their phone on the lights and when they go green they're like "oh, just a second, this is a funny clip and I'ma gonna see how it ends". Luckily I have two old maxims under the hood so I can cut those cars to pieces. Also, whenever I see a tractor going on 100km/h zone at 40km/h in the middle of the road I aim a couple of short bursts into the engine.

I'm planning on having rockets installed soon.

I think you are failing to understand what we mean by forgetting how to drive in bad weather. What we mean is people driver 100 kph in a 60 kph zone, turn sharply, and generally are stupid about the whole thing. Like somehow this is the first time it has ever gotten cold let alone snowed.

 

Well, the assholes that habit a place known as Helsinki are notoriously bad drivers. It's something universal to do with bigger cities. Every autumn, first time it snows there's at least one big 100-car chain crash.

Not to worry though - the wise folks known as politicians in Finland apparently envy the american school system, things like underfunded public schools, strict ranking lists and extremely expensive private schools and are trying to change it towards that direction. Some of the first steps were to cut school food funds so much that lunch skipping is becoming increasingly prevalent, so children will be hungry through the day and not be able to focus. Rich kids can just buy energy drinks and chocolate bars from vending machines. Also, we are firmly moving in the direction of a single teacher being responsible for 40+ children per class, just to make sure that the slowest, the average and the best will all suffer simultaneously from wrong pace and lack of teacher focus.

So, no reason for anyone to worry about losing to Finland in education rankings - we're gonna come down eventually, way below you guys. Just hang in tight and don't touch anything and you'll soon pass us.

It's also well known most people hate math and reading (Personally I love to read though the books they want us to read in school generally suck). Also standarized tests are stupid and IMO they work for the lowest denominator people and make the higher IQ people suffer. At least in the states. the whole 'no child left behind' (law? think I'm using the wrong term. meh.) Is making the whole system worse. It's an act.
