    I've only ever seen a version where the pieces were hollow and had drinks in them, but they were small and there wasn't much space for drinks.

    This looks appropriate. The rules are simple, same as ordinary chess, except that whenever you "eat" an enemy piece, you drink it empty, preferably at once with one sip.

    It's a challenging form of chess because the better player will be handicapped rather soon and vice versa. It's also known that in this version sacrificing your pawns is a lot more tempting strategy.
