I've been in and out of this being as I got Premium Beta and now only just got traded up from my maxxed out Adder to a Cobra which is halfway kitted out. Recently bought a T6 this week to begin my trading runs. Am happy to group with anyone and if anyone has a nice trading route setup let me know...mine's not great Think my pilot is Wolf Ward. MagnusEffect (as usual) I'm kinda bummed out about the lack of people to group with. I've been wanting to tackle some of the tougher missions, but can't do it on my own. Yesterday I got bored so I took my Cobra into a Warzone mission (not knowing what to expect) to take on some insurgents near Maridal. Damn near got myself killed in the process. Got away with 30% hull - had to shut down secondary systems just to limp back to port. It was an awesome experience in terms of space-simulation fidelity, but one I am not eager to repeat anytime soon. Having a wingman or two would be nice.

ok... forgot i actually had this. but for those of you who are just starting out and need a boost to your credits quickly, here is a rare commodity trade route. can be done in a smaller ship but you will have to sell more often at a slightly lower price. it can be done reasonably well in a trade configured Cobra and done perfectly in a Type 6 trade ship. http://files.enjin.com.s3.amazonaws.../attachments/elite.rare.trades_1419613275.pdf this run done once will net you more than 2 million credits (i believe, as i only did it one time) and doesnt take that long to complete. if you do this run i would suggest staying out of "Open Play" as it takes you through the most populated systems that are also frequented pirates just looking for these trade runners. EDIT: unless you have the permit for the "Founders world", cross off #9 as it is in a restricted system.
as someone looking at this never having played, will this make more sense once in-game? or is there some pre-requisite knowledge i'm lacking that would decypher the Sell Instructions column? that being said, thanks for the head's up, tips to boost initial revenue are always appreciated! also, roughly how long does this route take?
There is VERY little information in game. You can get some info from the trade information. However your best bet is going to the wiki and read about ships, systems and other parts of the game. You also should check the forums for a lot of trade info and other random information. There are also trade calculators out there as well. For the most part, if you have any questions, Google will find something about it, either in the forums or on the wiki. You will spend a lot of time there starting out.
that list is the star systems that the rare commodities ( they are on the commodities list in yellow )are located in. run that list in order keeping track of what you bought and where. then sell those items where they are indicated to be sold at. since the navigation has been extended to 1000Ly distance. before leaving a station, go to the galaxy tab and then to the navigation tab and type in the name of the next destination and plan a route there. you WILL need a fuel scoop. as i said earlier i made this run once ( just to test it out) and that has been quite awhile back when navigation was basically system by system so it took me a few hours to make that run. it would probably take less than 2 hours now. Edit. you can jump into that run anywhere along the route that is closest to you as it basically forms a figure "8" in space Second Edit: if you run out of cargo room along the way.. sell just enough of you most expensive item that would allow you to buy the max of the next item.

A powerful tool, thanks Gihz! Protip for the new: If you're running a trade ship without shields for more cargo, and you've got a full hold and a D-class thruster, don't boost around like you're flying a viper: This kills the trade ship. Not that it has ever happened to me...
When i saw it on steam i added to wishlist so i can buy when on sale. And gihz embrace technology. There is an app in the android store called elite notes that is a trading helper. Though since i dont play (yet) i can comment on how good or bad it may be.
My first day playing was a fluctuation between enjoyment and rage quiting. The game UI is very user unfriendly to new players. I highly recommend pouring over the keybindings and changing them as needed (ex. setting a hotkey for galaxy map). I never expected handholding, but the game is OBTUSE to say the least. Take your time with it and pour over the wiki. I'm finding very little to do besides grind for the next biggest ship. I don't want to discourage people from getting the game, but I'm disappointed by the lack of things to actually do beyond trade and blowing up random pirates. Exploration seemed cool until I discovered that one region of space is not much different than any other.
Also, here is the best trade route I've found ANYWHERE; both stations are extremely close to the stars they orbit (this is important for fast runs). At only 12.81 LY between the two stops, you can start doing this run easily as soon as you get anything better than a Sidewinder. I highly recommend it for quick cash. Just be aware it gets rather boring after you've done it 20 times in a row. Imperial Slaves are not "illegal" here so don't worry about getting busted for hauling them. If you can't afford Imperial Slaves (they cost a lot per ton), you can buy Personal Weapons at Gell-Mann instead. You wont get as much return, but it is still pretty decent. Alternatively, try these: If you haven't noticed, I'm not a big fan of long and complicated trade routes ('cause I'm lazy).
