That's about it works. Recruiter told me not to to tell anyone about the anti-depressants and stimulants I was taking at the time, found out later if things had gotten any further, I could have conceivably done jail time for fraud on a government form, not to mention that he was trying to let someone with severe depression have access to firearms.

Not being accepted into the army is one of the best things that ever happened to me.

No, this is incorrect. The sex of a human (or other placental mammals) is determined from the very beginning at fertilization. If the zygote is XX, it will be a female, if it's XY, a male.

However, in the beginning the embryo has the precursors of both female and male gonads (called paramesonephric and mesonephric ducts, respectively). If there is no Y chromosome (or if the Y chromosome is defective as in Swyer syndrome, see http://ghr.nlm.nih.gov/condition...), the embryo will re-absorb the mesonephric ducts and proceed the development of Müllerian ducts, that give rise to ovaries.

The Y chromosome contains a region called SRY which is the sex determining region, it basically gives the first molecular instruction to the embryo to develop as a male.

Since there is no female sex determining region in the sex chromosomes, it can be said that in mammals, the "default" embryological plan is female, and it is altered only if SRY is present and functional.

In male embryos, the SRY gene produces a transcription factor that is responsible for the differentiation of the testes; testes start producing androgens (male sex hormones) and also anti-Müllerian hormone and subsequently the external organs are formed.
