Anyone have an opinion on Pillars of Eternity? I'm a big fan of CRPGs, but I burned out on Divinity: Original Sin pretty quick for some reason last summer. Also while I'm asking, how is Company of Heroes 2? Also thinking about picking that up, but I've heard mixed things, and I'd be playing it exclusively for the single player.
Probably late on this. I'm a big baldurs gate fan, I liked divinity but I didn't finish it. It became a slog by the end with combat, strangely I thought the mechanics were still very good but overall execution end game was lacking. Pillars of eternity was much more in line with baldurs gate. Combat mechanics a little different and fights can be a little frustrating before you figure stuff out, but story is good. Enjoyed it more than divinity original sin

I've been wanting to buy Anno 2070, but there's not a single positive review about it. And it's not about the game! Everyone loves the game. The problem is UPlay. Even Steam version has UPlay and apparently UPlay doesn't let people play the game they've bought. Way to go Ubisoft. Fuck your fans in the arse without lube. That'll make them like you. Just tell it's for their own good. Would fucking love that game but it probably doesn't work unless I downloaded a pirate version and I'm trying to avoid pirating games these days if I can help it. So I'd rather just not play a game that doesn't work when bought. :edit: Just remembered actually that Rayman Legends was released by Ubisoft and I really loved that game. It also had this fun online challenges thing where you could compete against others on various daily and weekly challenges. At least in theory. It was always either down or corrupt or so, the challenges didn't display correctly and didn't update and at the end of day you might spend couple of weeks without being to take part at all. So I suppose it's part of Ubisoft strategy: "Don't let them fuckers play the game." That would be a cool slogan if you manage to get as far as the splash screen: "Ubisoft: Don't let them fuckers play the game"
haha, for sure. i used to be a huge ubisoft fan, they used to have some great games! sooooooo many great tom clancy games before they were struck by getdumbeddownforconsoleitis, far cry 1&2 (and maybe half of 3), and the first couple assassin's creed back when they were something fresh and not terrible yearly rehashes...
Ubisoft: "we'll make this really awesome game for tens of millions of dollars and not let anyone play it. because it is so awesome it would melt peoples eyes."
Seeing a few things that looked really good. I picked up Arma 3 at a good price. There was one called Neverending Nightmare that looks really creepy and intense. Horror isn't my usual genre, but it was tempting. Medeival Engineers looked like fun, think Space Engineers with catapults and castles. There were a couple of platformer-type games that looked pretty fun, as well - Shovel Knight was pushing a lot nostalgia buttons, and one called Oni: ...somethingorother looked just graphically beautiful.
Curious, what have y'all picked up so far? I've gotten: Homeworld Remastered Baldur's Gate II Enhanced Icewind Dale Enhanced Age of Empires 2 HD Yep, the nostalgia is strong with me. I thought about Pillars of Eternity long and hard, then decided to just get BG II and Icewind Dale instead for 1/3rd the price. I've actually never played Icewind Dale, so I'm looking forward to getting into it! Homeworld Remastered continues to amaze me, it is truly a 10/10 remaster. If it goes back on sale at the end, I'll probably pick up Cities: Skylines too, that game looked great when it was FOTM on Twitch back in March.
Neverending Nightmares: This is a PT-esq walking-down-a-creepy-hallway-witnessing-stuff simulator. It's unsettling but not especially scary--something along the lines of the kind of game Edgar Allen Poe would make. It's only a couple hours long, but it looks like there's multiple endings to give it some replay value. Ori and the Blind Forest: Absolutely gorgeous Metroidvania. It's like playing a Miyazaki film. Seriously, buy this. Far Cry 3 - Blood Dragon: It's Far Cry 3, except in a neon 80's action movie. You play as some nightmarish cyborg super-soldier who eats the hearts of the people he kills and speaks entirely in cliched one-liners. All in all a dramatic improvement in the relatability of the main character over the previous game. These I've not had time to try yet: Freedom Planet Among the Sleep Guns of Icarus Online - I have an extra copy of this if anyone wants it Wolfenstein: The Old Blood & New Order
I've bought: MTW2 STW2 Fallout Fallout2 Anno 2070 Right now I'm going to probably ask for a refund on Anno 2070. It cannot be launched. The UPlay launcher, after both installing the game and updating it for ~3 hours simply crashes as soon as you try to launch it. At least I gave it a shot. And they say the refund policy is bad? I at least felt safe to give them a shot despite being warned that it won't work. Well, in this case it didn't but I wouldn't have tried. Quid pro quo. edit: I sent the refund request for Anno 2070, stating that Ubisoft's launcher crashes after mere seconds after it starts checking if an update to the launcher itself is available. I also added that hearing from others this problem has persisted for several months now. I didn't even have a chance to play that 2 hours of it. Can't even launch it. I also wrote a review for it saying it won't work as a caution so other people can see that it's still not fixed. Probably never will be. Now, someone please say something about how Ubisoft has the right to do this and how this is technically good business etc. and how before refund policy they would've been able to happily make money without giving anything back.
Cheap date this Summer, still carrying/playing a big backlog from previous years. Max Payne 3 Saints Row 4 Sir, You are Being Hunted Waiting for: X-Com : Enemy Within Bioshock Infinite : Season Pass
honestly not that much grabbed me this year, anything that i was like, "ooo, good deal" i already had in my library, haha. i got witcher3 from GOG too so i should have plenty to carry me over until FO4 and Star Marine launch - did pick up the Deus Ex Collection though with all 4, played all but The Fall but who knows where my old discs are. great titles to have on hand for some good sci-fi - Survivalist was like $4 and looked interesting. was described in reviews as a better State of Decay which was a game i was really excited about and totally let down by - Fractured Space caught my eye a bit ago and for $6-7 i'll do some space capital ship pewpew. anybody here play? worth getting the Harbinger or Vanguard upgrades? - might snag The Convoy before the sale is over too, looks pretty sick
