Spoiler Somehow I feel safer in the world knowing that Dihm was not born, as such, but came flat-packed from Ikea. Quote from Mamma Dihm: "The Baby Dihm was our most difficult construction yet. In the elbow alone we had to use the Ax2, B, C, D and the rare extra long G screws. Midway through, we lost the Allen key so had to improvise with a hammer. To this day, I am not sure if we had all the parts for the head. Not long after, they discontinued the line. They never really told us why. It's probably the best hat stand someone could wish for."
I broke my radius and ulna in different places at the same time, The medics had to reset them right away than wrapped a plastic support around my arm and pumped it up. All without any any anesthetic, One could say it was a tad painful.
Argh! I don't have anything that rates up there....but I also broke my radius and that hurt like jiminy holding my arm and dragging my snowboard down the mountain. Still...only a flesh wound in comparison to some of the epic adventures in pain sustained/enjoyed by the members of the 'Borg.
How do you people even get hurt this bad. I bet half of you didn't even wear helmets on your scooters, madness.
I hit my elbow on a cement stair edge after slipping off the icy second step of the short set. Shock is pretty cool. I convinced myself it was bruised and refused to let the nurses cut off my jacket and sweatshirt. First words from the nurse, "Oh hon that's a gross deformity, that's not good"
I "sprained" my ankle when the 1st Sgt decided doing squadron PT on the armys tank trails was a good idea. The docs thought it was just a sprain but after 6 months of pain and looking like there was a softball in my ankle they finally did an MRI and saw that 2 of my tendons were very stretched and 1 ligament was almost completely torn. The pain wasn't too bad until they did some surgery to repair everything and I was in a cast for a month then a walking boot for another 6 months. I had to re-stretch the tendons by forcing my ankle to move. That was the painful part. Shortly after the walking boot was no longer needed I was the designated driver for a group friends on a Saturday night. I was on my way home after dropping off the last drunk friend when some other drunk ran a stoplight and hit my car just in front of the driver side door. It broke my leg in 2 places and tore my MCL. Also dislocated my shoulder, broke 2 ribs and I had glass in my face. The guy that hit me was ejected from his truck and died after hitting a light pole on the other side of the intersection. That caused another 3 months in a leg cast, then they did surgery to fix the MCL which was another 6 months of soft cast and physical therapy. The Air Force gave me a medical discharge a few months later. I still have pain in my ankle and the occasional knee pain. Also I was bow hunting last winter when I was drawing back the bow string when I heard/felt a pop in my shoulder. My arm dropped and I was unable to move it for about 15 minutes. My brother was in the tree stand about 20 yards away and heard it. He thought the bow string snapped. The doc said I tore my rotator cuff and it would need surgery to fix. I still have not done it though because I can not afford to be out of a job for the 3-4 months required for the healing time and rehab. I have no major day to day pain but it does hurt if I raise my arm above a certain level or use it a lot. I will probably get it fixed in a couple months after my next leave cycle from Iraq.
Realizing I have gotten off pretty easy I'm going to speed up purchasing a sports bike and driving it like a madman. During winter.
Helmet probably saved my life in that crash I mentioned. Hitting the front of a jeep kinda fucks up your neck and head.
I ride my Buell 1125R all year in the rural area near Chicago. The only time I don't ride are those really really cold days in winter when its below zero outside and the roads are not cleared yet. The key is to wear the proper gear and don't take unnecessary risks. If your not comfortable on your bike and confident in your skills, its only a matter of time before you crash.
Nah, you're still gonna crash at some point, no matter how comfortable and confident you are, simply because you're not the only person on the road. In my case, it was a dumb bitch in a Pontiac that pulled out like 20 feet away. Nothing you can do in that situation but eat the road.
that's a class 2 to 3 ankle sprain. I had a class 1 to 2 which was damage and slightly torn. a full class 3 sprain would be completely torn. had to ware some silly ankle brace for about a month or more.
I was kidding because we have at first 'black ice', eg. ice that you can't see but it's there and then later we get this solid ice cover that lasts months. It's often difficult enough to drive with a car with winter tires but a bike.. Nope. No, at most you see some kids riding those tiny mopeds, but that's the extreme and even they are going like at most 40kph. Especially every possible intersection and crossing are like skating ring ice so a lot of cars without slip prevention system have difficulty to get moving at all and it's very typical to see cars simply rotate sideways instead of moving forward. Though it would be a quick way to get an injury. Even the MC guys drive cars during winter.
Yeah that happened to a friend of mine. He bought a new Harley soft tail and 2 days later a lady in a Honda pulled out in front of him then stopped. He landed on her hood then rolled off and hit the back of the car in front of hers. He managed to walk away with lots of bruises and a few cuts but his helmet and proper riding gear definitely saved him from some serious injuries.
I forgot to mention the updated photo. I got that shit taken out after a while. Turns our the long screw broke from me hitting the head on tons of stuff. They never bothered to tell me
Lol.... Dhim... you sound as violently rough as me.. "Screws in my elbow? GREAT... that means its REINFORCED!" last time i broke a arm... i had to have the cast replaced twice due to me using it as a weapon. or a tool.
I never even got a cast, just a soft splint for a week or two and a sling Hitting that non-recessed screw on shit fucking hurt. And cold went straight into the bone
