I played it a while back. It is OK. Very repetitive and kind of meh. I do not know if it is any better now.
It is still in pretty early alpha. I played in alpha 6, which I liked. Now it's alpha 7 and it went into wrong, grindy, direction. If someone wants to try it out, try using this key to access alpha: ThursdayGCWS
I think I'm losing patience with games that have a lot of grind to them. Not enough time in the day. For that matter, I think I'm pretty much done with JRPGish games in general (not saying this one is, but it gives me that vibe).
I've noticed in the last 5 years I can't play games that are F2P grindy, or games that basically circle around a grind to just upgrade your stuff ala Diablo, Destiny, or Warframe. I need games I play to have a point. The goal of just unlocking a gameplay facet isn't motivating for me, its totally demotivating. I don't want to play 10 more rounds of the same shit to get a new tank, I want to play because its fun and i'd rather pay to have that tank now for the variety (but I also don't agree with most F2P prices). I also can't replay the same freaking level over and over again at a slightly harder difficulty just to get something sliiightly shinier. Booring. Maybe I'm getting old.
I'm with you on that, but I prefer to think of it as we just don't have the minds of children anymore. I think the only game of that model I can still enjoy right now is Warframe, but that's only because the combat is so damn fun and the aesthetics are so weird (there really isn't anything like it on the market). I still enjoy spurts of Warthunder with friends, but I'm definitely unmotivated to grind through the higher ranks. I mean what's the point? It might take 20x more effort to go from rank 5 to rank 7, but there is no chance of the game getting 20x more fun. If anything, I've found that the level of "fun" only decreases as you get into the higher ranks. My favorite games these days are ones that allow for exploration and creativity or simulations.
Warframe is more farmy than grindy, at least when you're playing with other people, the 'grind' is barely a footnote in play, and the 'farm' is only if you choose to gather rather than buy, it's possible to get everything you want in Warframe without giving the studio a dime (unless you want Excal prime, in which case you're just SOL.) but the discounts on platinum and the player market can be quite lucrative if you wish to invest your time there instead of in missions.
Farm / grind, to me its the same experience. And I like Warthunder, which is sad because I really liked the plane combat in that game, but the "tiers" and balancing that come with the F2P grind made it bullshit, and grinding in general became unfun.
you're doing it wrong, farming you can quit any time with the only penalty being you don't get {insert super object worth spending time for here}, grinding is what you have to do in order to even play the game proper, most games you spend days just trying to get to end game so you can do the good stuff (typical mentality, and true after first play through for most people regardless) Warframe really cuts back on the grind side of gaming with mods and such, friends can really up your game quickly, and even remove a lot of what 'grind' there is in the game, the only thing you really have no control over is the ever present RNG, so, farmy. I agree on the Warthunder thing, I hate tiered F2P games, of late.
