    Humans and machines will no longer be your only threat.

    First discovered by Kuritan explorers in the Periphery near the Draconis-Outworlds border, this creature is named after the Japanese monster of legend.
    The real-life creature lives up to its name in many ways. It's chitin plating makes it naturally resistant to targeting and tracking with scanners. It is capable of spitting highly corrosive venom at prey that is out of reach. Although adults are normally solitary predators, younger creatures have been known to hunt in small packs. However, make no mistake... even a single O-dokuro can pose a serious threat to an unprepared Lancer.

    Scientists have yet to agree on how to classify the species as it exhibits a combination of traits from Lissamphibia (vertebrate with predatory teeth) and Panarthropoda (chitin plates & claws). It also shares similar regenerative abilities of both. Extra care must be taken to ensure death of the creature.

    Faction Advantages and Unit Quirks are now tied neatly in with unit files! Should make assigning these much faster/easier now.

    Note that the "20% Unit Discount" advantage only applies when purchasing unit. Most drones will have this advantage to offset the fact that they are (usually) bot controlled.

    Quick clarification question: on that spreadsheet, the Handler skills are labeled as "All start as THREE level 3 skills."
    Does that mean that a handler is level 3 with all skills, or does (s)he have to choose three to specialize in?

    Also, I assume we can apply our XP to our handlers; does that count towards the 52 XP character cap, or do handlers have their own cap (if any)?

    Good eye. That was a typo. Has been fixed now. Handler gets ONE Lvl 4 and FOUR Lvl 3 skills for both.

    Lancers and Handlers are two separate characters each player owns so each has their own XP cap. One is primarily combat and one is primarily support, but both have secondary skills that can expand their roles. Although your Handler will nominally captain your private dropship from a safe distance during missions (yes you get one of those too), you can buy them their own combat unit and deploy them in a mission alongside your Lancer. However, keep in mind that doing so applies all the same rules as with other combat units (ie. your Handler could die).

    Also cleaned up abilities window a bit more. Hopping Jack was slightly nerfed; it no longer stacks with red abilities (same as Jumping Jack).

    Player Sheet is up:

    All Lancers & Handlers start with ZERO reputation with all employers. Successful completion of a mission earns you that missions rating in Reputation. This is followed by a simple formula:

    Completing a mission against 3000 BV will net you 30 Reputation.

    Reputation can be gained or lost depending on the number of objectives completed. If zero objectives were completed, Players can actually lose Reputation as well. Reputation caps at 999.

    A Player's Reputation is always the average of your Lancer and Handler. If one of them dies or retires and is replaced, your Reputation is reduced by half (round up to nearest whole number).

    Finally, Rank is gained or lost by defeating (or being defeated by) Lancers. It is mostly for bragging rights, but...:secretlaugh:

    NOTE: Reputation ties directly in to unlocking new weapon upgrades, drones, and hiring cohorts:

    Two quick questions:
    • Do we need a positive reputation with employer factions to purchase drones, or are those unlocked from the start?
    • Can we lose reputation from employers by destroying their forces or mission failure?

    Good question. Faction drones will be tied to reputation if you wish to purchase.

    Reputation required = 10% Battle Value of unit

    So if a faction has a 800 BV drone for sale, it will unlock for you at 80 Reputation.

    It is also very likely that drones could be one of many additional rewards given for accomplishing various tasks; achieving a specific Lancer rank for example.

    Reputation can definitely be lost for hostile actions against a specific faction. It is uncertain at this time if you will lose Rep for losing a mission; if so, then probably a somewhat diminished amount to encourage more risk taking (perhaps losing half the amount you would have won if you had succeeded). However, Rep can never fall below zero. The goal is to make it possible to befriend multiple factions, but definitely slower and harder to unlock all tech branches at once.

    I think it's fair to say that befriending all factions will be recommended more as an end-game goal.

    Current faction breakdown is this:
    • AAA = fastest progression, generally easiest start; tougher units, but weaker weapons; units are most tactically "forgiving" (great for new players)
    • HiveTech, Independence, Luthien Exports = middle road with different specialties (missile, ballistic, energy respectively)
    • Alliance = slowest progression; generally hardest to start with; more fragile units, but powerful weapons; quality over quantity means less room for error (recommended only for veterans)

    UPDATED!: Economy and Upgrades Table

    Sorted out upgrading your designs:
    Tech Change is applied to any upgrade cost when changing any aspect of your unit from IS to Clan (or vice versa).

    In other words, if you add Clan weapons using "Adv. Equipment" to an IS mech, apply the Tech change cost. Same goes for engine changes, armor, internals, etc.

    Regarding starting Reputation:

    • All players start the campaign with 0 Reputation (which means all weapons remain locked at the beginning of play).
    Regarding "free" upgrades for returning veteran players:
    • Player's owned units must be 75 tons or less (units above 75t may be downsized for free).
    • Initial "free" upgrades are TECH LOCKED; you may change your loadouts using IS Tech ONLY (sorry guys).
    • Clan tech must be gained through Reputation; this was the only reasonable solution to keep things balanced.
    • If veterans really want to start off with all Clan Tech, they may sell all their assets to purchase a canon clan design.
    New Feature: Declare A Sponsor!
    • Publicly declare a corporate sponsor and instantly gain 100 Reputation!
    • Your Reputation cannot fall below 100 with your sponsor.
    • You may only have one sponsor at a time.
    • You cannot take hostile actions against your sponsor.
    • You may revoke your sponsorship after 30 days, but you will immediately lose the 100 Rep bonus.
    • This feature was added to allow ALL players an option to gain some early Reputation for immediate upgrades.
