My girl and I have been considering picking up pokemon for our 3DSes, would you guys recommend X/Y or OR/AS? I've only played 1st gen and she's never played any of the games.
I would recommend Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. OR/AS has a bunch of changes and additions that make the game quite a bit nicer to play. Seems like some of the animations have been improved a bit, you can now have your town map open all the time and updates live, they removed the annoying roller blades, there's DexNav, and a bunch of other little things.
While OR/AS is pretty neat as a whole, and did make some changes that are nice, I'd still say that X/Y are worth playing in if for no other reason than it introduces mechanics that OR/AS build upon. Beyond that, the Kalos region has over 450 pokemon you can catch/evolve/trade- compared to just barely over 200 in OR/AS. It's just cool to have that degree of variety available to you (plus you can just trade your XY stuff onto OR/AS later if you grow attached).
I guess sun & moond have some strange version of some of the originals. like an "evolved" vulpix that instead of fire is an ice type because it lives in an icy environment. the sandshrews there are ice/steel types. http://www.polygon.com/2016/8/1/12341092/pokemon-sun-and-moon-new-pokemon-alolan-pokemon plus the starters. so there are at least 22 new pokemon (probably more)
added you, so far you're rock type, Dwebble, and Corsola, can't see the third unless we're on at the same time, and you've beaten the final 4, the wife hasn't apparently added my code. Apparently your third is Rhydon.
