The participants of the upcoming naval battles closed beta will be called the "Knights of the Sea". Made up of torpedo, artillery and missile boats, coast guard vessels and submarine chasers, this so-called "small" naval contingent served in all oceanic theatres of the World War II era. http://warthunder.com/en/news/4185-...-thunder-closed-beta-test-later-this-year-en/ sounds like they won't go with large ships at all (destroyers maybe the biggest?) and stick mostly with brown water navy units.
Haven't seen them mentioned. Just submarine chasers which i assume are pt boats but for anti sub warfare?
Even DD's seem hopeful - maybe Frigates as the biggest, with gunboats and other brown/green water craft making up the bulk? Still an interesting approach - sort of dodges the whole "We're copying Wargaming" shtick by sticking to the less-famous and less talked about (but still very important) littoral Navy's coastal Monitors.
It also solves the problem of "hey look an airplan" BOOOOOM that you get when you mix planes and big slow ships.
And "big" being relative - prewar Frigates were about the size of late war Gunboats. I sort of can't wait - seriously considering buying a pack...
