I lost my shit when I saw that!

We have this drink in Finland that's called "sima". It's supposed to be mead but it's not. It's story is that in 19th century honey was expensive and Finns were poor so they came up with this juice that has some lemon and sugar in it. It's essentially lemon juice with yeast and no alcohol. For some inexplicable reason Finns will never accept that it's not mead and they translate their lemon juice as mead in English. It should be just called 'sima' in English and mead / mjöd should be called that in Finnish - not translated but referred to as mjööd or something.

Then we'd have the terminology right.

They do sell actual mead here through Alko - state alcohol monopoly company (except some beers are sold at markets too). But it's something like 20€ per half a liter or so, almost as expensive as gold.

Been planning on making my own but our apartment does not have child secure facilities. Been thinking of making it in sauna but ffs then I couldn't go to sauna for a month.

yoikes! there is a winery here in MN that most liquor stores carry since it's "local" and thats all the rage these days. turns out they make my favorite tasting mead of the ones i've tried so far and i can get it at total wine (a chain of huge discount booze shops) for like $9/bottle, lol
