didn't see anyone post the instructions for the multiplayer beta so here they are (they are on the battletech forms so I don't think i'm breaking anything. Not like it was an email. don't even have to log in to see this part of the forums)

THE DOUBLE-SECRET MULTIPLAYER BETA TEST is for those hearty souls willing to opt-in and help stress test the system in the wild. All Backers with Beta Access are invited to participate but by opting-in, you accept that you may experience connection issues, crashes, and dropped games - which is exactly what the test is aimed to fix.

The Double-Secret Multiplayer Beta Test is separate from the current Skirmish Beta. You can access it by following these instructions:

    1. In the left column games list of your Steam library right-click “BattleTech - Backer Beta”
    2. Select “Properties”
    3. Click on the tab labelled “BETAS”
    4. In the text box, type “DEATHFROMABOVE” (all caps, no quotes)
    5. Click the “CHECK CODE” button (do not hit enter)
    6. In the dropdown menu, select “mpbeta - Multiplayer test build for BT Backer Beta”
    7. Click the “CLOSE” button
    8. Double-Secret Multiplayer Beta Test version will start downloading automagically
    9. Launch the game from within Steam - launching directly from the game .exe or a shortcut will not work!

Note: to return to the normal Backer Beta, select “NONE - Opt out of all beta programs” from the drop down menu.

Multiplayer beta is live for all, it is out of date with internal build and is used for net code testing until end of year.

So, have discovered the perfect FRR scout lance. It combines the elements of the Kurita and Stiener scout mechs currently available in the Beta test.
    1x Atlas & 1x Panther. = 15 million c-bills

You are welcome. Happy face stomping

Apparently HBS is toying with mechs Don't get destroyed by CT destruction and are just in a repair bay for a while. Which makes sense in a real world sense. CT destruction just means the mech is inoperable especially if you take stackpoling out. Maybe it took enough damage the controls no longer work? Also timeline wise and location (periphery) makes more sense that 2ith little chance to purchase new mech, a mercenary outfit would try to repair something where a house unit would just write it off and replace it.

Right, a CT damaged enough to be inoperable MAY be repairable, albeit probably very costly. Obviously within the battle the mech is down and out but if you can recover it maybe there's a chance its fixable and a chance that its not, I don't see how that would be an issue.

On the forums some people don't like it (because stackpoling skewed their view) and CT destruction to them means a mech is gone completely. I was always of the thought that most of the time a mech would be repairable even with a CT "destruction". though it would take awhile because the engine might be screwed up. Or the gyro. I mean if the gyro was messed up (just the gyro) couldn't that still count as "center torso destruction" because the mech can't really operate anymore?

So, gotta ask. What is this 'stackpoling' people have started referencing? Only thing I recall from the books is the 'i am jade falcon' rule that still irritates me to this day.

Stackpoling is the big explosion mechs make when they die. which just wouldn't happen. Or at least it is when it Michael Stackpole is the Michael Bay of authors. Everything explodes. He wrote the warrior trilogy and the blood of kerensky trilogy (a few others as well).

think the explosions when mechs died in MW 4 or MC 2. That is stackpoling. At least when it happens to every mech that dies and not just occasionaly. Or if you want a GIF with some creative freedom.

To add, a fusion engine that loses it's containment would likely just shut down as long as it was designed properly. Fusion reactions aren't self-sustaining under most circumstances, except in something with the mass of a star.

You might get a spontaneous release of superheated elements, but unless it sets off ammunition or the like its just not going to out dps a longtom as has been depicted in a lot of the books/games just watch any of the Mech Commander play through s where some one leaves their mech next to one that is stackpoling.

this also occurred during a time when everybody and their grandmother was terrified of the potential cataclysm of nuclear energy without any actual understanding of the process and the methods by which it is controlled. Chernobyl may not have had the Hindenburg effect on nuclear power, but it came damn close. People are still reactively afraid of it today, basically shutting down any serious discussions out of sheer reflex.

Stackpoling is what doesn't happen to a mech accordimg to official BT lore and game nechanics. At worst you get an uncontrolled plasma release.

And CT damage is just structural anyway. It's not like every other part of a mech can't be rebuilt.
