I'm only going Thursday night because the theater I was looking at getting tickets with decided to open another screening the next morning after looking the night before. So it was empty and picked what ever seats we wanted.

So after hearing a review on how supposedly this movie moves away from "light vs dark" side and more towards the "grey" side of the force, I am a lot more intrigued.
Luke Skywalker might have actually become a grey jedi after whatever events transpired with his failed attempt to revive the Jedi Order.
That would certainly be more interesting in my book. I hated the first new movie, but I might actually like this one a lot more becuase it seems to finally be crossing into territory we haven't really seen in a Star Wars movie yet.

Personally, I never really cared much for the jedi or their dark side cousins. They all seemed like a bunch of boring celibate space wizards to me. The concept of grey jedi feels more real to me and hopefully this newest movie will do the idea justice.

I think the originals were fine for setting up the universe, the prequels were... well, bluntly a mistake, There were so many things they -should- have done but didn't, and what they did do was mostly flat and unimaginative, the best parts of the entire trilogy being Yoda's fight scenes and the cannonization of the purple light saber (thanks Sammy :p). Now that it's out of Lucas' hands though they can finally bring in some of the ideas that have been well liked from the books and games, such as the grey Jedi and many other stories. Whatever happens I don't think Disney is likely to ruin this franchise half as badly as Lucas started to with the prequels. It's not impossible that they might turn it some direction many of the older fans won't like, so I can't say they won't do some harm, but Lucas really needed someone to put the brakes on him or he was going to destroy this thing we all love.

Interestingly Star Wars: Rebels, which is considered canon by the new Disney people, deals heavily with the grey / neutral side of the force, so I'm not surprised its making an entry into the main series.

I would also say rebels is better than episode 7 was.

Rebels... is a bit too YA for me, some parts are fine but its clearly written for a young audience.

They have aged it a bit but I feel like it needs to be aged again. My main issue is I feel like the episodes are too short. I feel like some nothing really happens because it's so short.

Not giving any spoilers, but I was very impressed with Last Jedi.

It does have more humor than the others. It also has some slow points as characters develop, which are usually broken by the humor.

The scenes bounce around a bit too with several major characters in different areas doing different things.

My feelings are a bit more mixed. Lots of meandering plot lines with no real impact aside some a bit of character development, a couple tacked on action sequences simply for the sake of action sequences, and at the end of the movie kinda feels like nothing changed in the big picture.

The Kylo / Rey plot was good overall, the stuff around it felt like filler.

Also why the hell do ballistics arc in space??? No gravity.

big as those Star Destroyers are (no spoilers, haven't seen the movie, just guessing) they actually might generate their own small gravity well. Enough to alter the trajectory of a projectile? depends I suppose, but if the projectile is already firing at that specific target it might cause it to move more towards the gravitational center (shrug)

I don't ships gravity fields go much beyond the outer hull if at all. Unless it's an interdictor cruiser

Reading around some of the reaction threads/forums, this film is eextreeemely polarizing. Looks like some people think its the best star wars movie ever, but others point out a lot of issues, etc. There's a lot of things in the movie that are really subjective, like the use of humor, which in my opinion was very similar to how they did it in Thor but it makes these awkward pauses in tense scenes that haven't been used in Star Wars before. Its not bad per se, but its certainly unexpected.

Well, Thor was tying to be Star Wars so bad it hurt, so I guess the reverse can work.

I'm not talking about the magic gravity generator every sci-fi ever uses so they don't have to go out of their way to CGI people floating around on stage. I mean the simple concept that enough mass in one place generates gravity. A large enough asteroid will have it's own gravity, particularly if it happens to contain a large quantity of iron or other high density material.
