I have only failed one mission so far. It was some assassination contract for the capellans. Instead of going in and rushing the target I decided to gun it out. Ended up fighting a company of light mechs including firestarters with the target in a QuickDraw. Only lost and came down to 1v1.

I’m skimming the pocketbook though. Always do full salvage or the next one down.

I failed the first mission the first time. Lucky shot cored the centurion.

Haven't failed yet, though my last mission was the one to get the Argo, where my blackjack suffered catastrophic damage and my character is out for 118 days.

Well that's fun, I just got a JagerMech on Weldry cause I knocked out the pilot from head hits, knock downs, and torso destruction. I don't know if I WANT a JagerMech...

So far my biggest miss was a quickdraw. I really wanted to get my hands on it but it came out as 'reinforcements' near the end of the fight and I couldn't afford to take calculated shots on it. It had to go. At least I got to start putting pieces of it together I guess. Just 2 more to go! ;)

So far I have only seen one hunchbacks 4g. But I Haven't done the story mission after getting the Argo off the ground yet. So aside from that 1 pirate quickdraw I have' t seen any heavies yet.

I've learned that specifically using only missiles and/or flamers on a target will pretty much guarantee you can capture it fully intact. Between the massive scatter damage and knockdown potential, I almost always succeed in knocking out the pilot.

If I start over, I'm definitely going to focus on more salvage rights starting out. Salvaging that first Quickdraw during the recovery of the Argo was a huge bonus.

Oh man, I've seen 2 ac/20 hunches and the one with all the lasers. saddly was on the hunt for cash and only have 2 pieces to show for the trouble so far. Though I lost out a bit on a re-start as well. They are one of my 'ah crap' mechs when they pop up. I've also taken a great dislike to panthers. That ppc packs a punch and their hard to hit heh. I've found myself sending the spider to go punch them in the face more than a couple times just so everyone else could get a decent shot off. FYI It also seems that utility weapons (mg, sml, flamer(unconfirmed)) are counted as a 2nd attack for getting rid of evasive chevrons. I've definatley gotten some milage out of the sml on the spider for the task.

From what I know the mg, sml, and flamer, fire as well when doing melee.

My heavies are a dragon 1n, grasshopper, and jagermech, currently working on a Orion and catapult. Have blackknight parts but don’t know if I’ll use it.

Indeed! What I hadn't seen on the pre-release youtube vids is that when you have those weapons and do a melee attack you remove 2 chevrons instead of the normal 1 chevron. One from the melee and one from the weapons fire. At least I think that is what is going on. I've been playing late so might have been seeing things!

I thought melee removed all evasion? Maybe not. It seems like it does but maybe It's at a certain piloting level where it does.

Melee does not factor evasion into it's hit math, it does not remove it from further attacks, however.

Just had my Highlander and Banshee taken out by smart AI play and a Pair of LRM launchers hidden behind a ridge and every other enemy unit in a wide fan so I couldn't just flank to them. 9 turns of fire later, the KC and BM were missing most of their armor but the 2 lances and 4 vehicles were dead.

Now I need to find new Headmods to replace the ones I just lost.

The game is very unforgiving, welcome to Battletech. I just lost a Victor pilot to a headshot.

Currently sporting a Highlander, Victor, Stalker, and Thunderbolt.

damn people. I'm still on mediums. Everytime I do a 2-star mission, it takes weeks to recover from it

I was having the same problem. I remembered one of the videos I watched pointing out standard armor isn't max so I re-gigery poked my main line mediums with max armor and reduced payload. Fights take a little longer but survivability went up. Also don't forget facing. If you can get bulwark going on one side just swivel to bring the other side to bare once they breach armor. I've seen my poor shadowhawk soak up more than its share of fire while the others widdled them down.

I wasn't complaining, I was impressed when I took a minute to look at how they set up. If I tried to go right, the rest of the line could collapse on my flank, same if I went left. And incidentally I went pretty far left of the mission objective to start with trying to flank in the first place. It was a good move by the AI and I had no choice but to wade through and hope my armor held up. Those twin LRM carriers were a nasty surprise when they opened up and put my Banshee on his arse before he got to brace.

Now I take at least a couple minutes to look at any and all maps before I even start to move, looking for possible kill zones.

(Edit) As I typed this a balzy Wolverine charged my line and punched my Highlanders head clean off in one hit. Well done you fucking bastard, now eat AC 20's.
