My second Heavy ends up being a Cataphract 1X, suck it pilot, I incapacitate you.

Turning it into a Marauder, we'll see how that works out.

Got my face good and stomped into the dirt for the first time today. Took a 2 skull mission (yeah, sure) to attack an enemy lance, and got caught out by a Grasshopper, Quickdraw, 2x Kintarros, a Trebuchet, and a Blackjack.

Against my 2x Shadowhawks, a Centurian, and a Vindicator.

I lost hard. I got the two heavies down, but it cost me the vindicator and one shadowhawk, did serious damage to the centurian, and put a third of my pilots in the hospital for 3 months.

I'm damn near bankrupt, and the difficulty curve has gone up enough to make me consider restarting.

I have learned to play it somewhat cool until i actually know what I could be fighting, while trying to funnel them and focus fire down certain mechs with precision moral bonus.

also instead of going to a evac point. you can also just kill all the enemies which will end the mission.

Yeah I usually just kill all the enemies.

I do something similar. After starting a couple of missions down in a pit and having to fight my way uphill (a huge disadvantage), I now instinctively scramble for higher ground at the start of the mission. Once that's accomplished, I send my fastest mech to draw the enemy into my kill zone. It doesn't always work as planned, though. I've had fights where some mechs refused to engage me at any range closer than LRM coverage.

I had one of those escort vehicle missions and the enemies didn't show up or move till I started moving to the extraction point for my mechs (after the vehicles were extracted). I had to fight that one.

Focus fire and draw them into kill zones making use of cover has been my go to method, only failed one mission so far due to running out of time thanks to difficulty finding the one specific place to stand on a cliff that allowed my flanker to get to the obj behind the enemy one turn late.

A grasshopper with full armor and max amount of flamers with a few being + dmg is a very disgusting thing.

Getting the bots to lemming makes it easier. I end up fighting two lances of assaults on a regular basis. If I can get them one at a time (sensor lock and lrms) it works much smoother. Getting pinched between 2 king crabs and an atlas with various supporting mechs really sucks.

Current squad: King crab, twin atlases, and a lrm stalker. Sometimes I bring my AWS-8T instead of an atlas for longer range support.

I have twin Atlas, King Crab and a Highlander. I have a stable of 2 Highlanders, Awesome and Stalker to replace them in case I need to launch quickly.

I've only played a few hours but all the head hits are getting really annoying. I understand it happens sometimes, and more frequently with missiles, but it seems like every time I do a mission my character gets 2 or 3 head hits within the first couple turns of combat. One time I was hit in the head by a sniper turret from 1/2 way across the map 2xtimes in a row, then a Jenner ran up and destroyed my head with srms.

My current squad is 1xJager 2xShadowhawks 1xCenturion or Blackjack depending on if I want more range or brawling

I don't particularly enjoy the random head hits either, however I've dealt more of them than I've suffered from, killed the pirate queen with a boot to the head, shot a PPC crit square in the face of a Grasshopper and killed the pilot, and plenty of missile barrage hits, but really I just play with the orc philosophy of, fire more bullets, LRMS SRMS MLs and keep one or two very long range single shot weapons for the chance at the surprise your mechs dead.

I only just started to upgrade to the heavy mechs, 1x shadowhawk 2x quickdraw and a jager missile boat. One of the quickdraws is loaded for bear with PPC, LL two ML and enough HS to make it reasonable, the other is a brawler build with 4ml and enough JJ to cross the field quick, max armor to soak whatever the enemy sends. I was thinking about throwing some more melee stuff on it, but apparently no support weapon slots, which is kinda annoying on the SL but kinda understandable given the way that works.

I just got to upgrade my shadow hawk to a dragon and my centurion to a hunch back. liking it so far. Taking things slow and steady lately so haven't been able to salvage some of the cooler guys I"ve taken down. Still sticking with 2 skull missions at the moment.

Currently running my centurion with a ac5, srm6, 2 lrm5, ml, one ton ammo each, and almost full armor.

Switching from a lrm 10 to 2 lrm 5 frees up a ton and the ac 5 helps with longer range when initiating fights. Srm 6 makes up for loss in ml and damage of ac10. Also runs pretty cool

Finally ran into a manticore and holy shit those things are scary. It wasn't to bad because I pretty much wrecked the enemy mechs by the time the manticore showed up. Same mission I had traveller in a shaddy hack multi target on an enemy shaddy hack and centurion. All but the AC5 targeting the hawk. Dropped the lrm 5 for another srm launcher, sl, and some armor. But she got a headshot with the ac5 on the centurion that had taken no damage. It was glorious.

Also I upgraded glitch to a Griffin 1n as soon as I got one. But I immediately changed out the ppc for 1 LL, 2ML and a SL and replaced the lrm 10 with 2 lrm 5s. I think the 2 5s actually works a little better.
