Have to give PGI a lot of credit on this. As far as I can tell, they are doing a much better job about being transparent with the community: I haven't seen it all, but I'm fairly happy with what I've seen/heard so far.
I think they did another AMA on the 30th. Mechs death explosion AKA stackpoling is apparently making a comeback.
Could also be just ammo explosion and no engine explosions. I think they just said "mech explosions are in".
tbh im pretty ok with stackpoling. as a younger player i had never read a stackpole book so i had no idea what the mechanic even was. i figured the mechs went boom when they died in the games. I saw it as a "stop face hugging with LBX20s and learn how to shoot" mechanic.
I saw it as a challenge to see if I could outrun the blast radius after gutchecking someone with my LBX shadowcat.
Next AMA: - Tina BenoitLast Friday at 6:22 PM Hey everyone! It's been months now since we had our first General AMA and a lot of new people have been joining this Discord since, due to the additional pre-orders, so as a result we'd like to host another like it for the next AMA! We will be scheduling the next one for Wednesday April 10th with the subject of: General MW5 AMA. @ 10AM PDT // 5PM UTC @ 6PM PDT // 1AM UT The Developers attending will be Russ Bullock and Alex Garden.
From yesterday, discussibg game status and the Epic store exclusivity deal: https://m.soundcloud.com/nogutsnogalaxy/mechwarrior-5-mercenaries-ama-8-w-russ-bullock
I found Russ' use of "statistics" to be dishonest, or ignorant. One of the two. When you wear rose-colored glasses, things look rosy. When you're fed propaganda, it is funny how things align to the exact talking points of the overlords
I got a strong impression that Russ was told he'd have the opportunity to be one of the biggest fish in a small pond vs. a mid-size fish in a huge ocean and he leapt at that opportunity without really considering that the "pond" is basically a livewell. That in itself is a bit revealing, as obviously PGI didn't get the sales boost they wanted from going on Steam. I think rosy-tinted lenses may be forgetting that they were laboring under a lot if bad feelings at the time, much of which PGI brought on themselves through community mismanagement, walking back promised design features, and poor response to player feedback. I think Russ is also kind of a passive-aggressive person who responds well to flattery... and going back to the MWO community for about a day reminds me what a veritable ray of sunshine I am compared to many folks out there. Not that that excuses anything. But this is sounding less like Russ got an offer he couldn't refuse or a dumptruck full of money driven to his house and more like he got a flashy salespitch promising they'd make him a star and he couldn't pass it up.
