Modders are already reporting having limited success with conventional vehicle and infantry combat. I suspect by the end of this year, modders are going to be able to crack this baby wide open.

Yes. But more than that I want to change my dropships color so I don't confuse it when extracting for an enemy dropship. I got turn around in a mission and saw a dropship coming in thinking it was mine but nope. A bunch of enemies pop out from it.

Saburo Sakai after a dogfight was over was trying to regroup with his squadron and saw them assembling nearby.

As he flew closer he was shocked that it was a full squadron of the American Hellcats his squadron had just engaged! And the Hellcat pilots were equally surprised for a second before they all dived after him.

Yea, it can happen to the best of us! :D

Interesting. Though I'm not sure how. Since I think the U.S. Navy generally used a dark blue for their planes. While the Japanese Navy used mostly greens and Grey's.

In an earlier battle his cockpit had been hit and he got a metal splinter in his eye which caused permanent damage to his sight on that eye and hurting also his long range vision. With them losing the war and all at that point there was no question of him returning to service as soon as he could with his impairment, they were really low on pilots and many of the old skilled aces were being killed. That mistake nearly cost him his life.

I see. So at the time the hellcat came out the us us n was using this camouflage scheme for planes.

The Non-Specular, or Three-Tone, scheme appeared in February of 1943. Orders required all upper surfaces be Non-Specular Sea Blue 607, with Non-Specular Intermediate Blue 608 being applied to fuselage sides, vertical tail surfaces, and rudder. Under surfaces were Non-Specular Insignia White 601. On aircraft with folding wings, the portion of the wing viewed when folded was painted Non-Specular Intermediate Blue 608.

In late March 1944, colors from the 1943 Three Tone scheme were changed from Non-Specular to Glossy. The exception to this rule was fighter aircraft, which were to now carry Glossy Sea Blue 623 overall. Non-Specular Sea Blue 607 could be substituted in areas where it was necessary to protect the pilot from sun glare.
By October 1944, the 1943 Three Tone scheme was dropped from all combat aircraft, including torpedo and dive bombers. This was replaced by the earlier March 1944 fighter scheme calling for Overall Glossy Sea Blue 623. The exceptions to this rule included Seaplanes, Transports, Helicopters, Patrol, and Observation aircraft, all of which retained the earlier Non-Specular scheme of February 1943.

He ran into the hellcats in June 1944 so they would have been in the glossy sea blue. Also how the fuck did he survive? Not the hellcats (which he did survive).

Sakai sustained serious injuries from the return fire of lower rear gunner. He was hit in the head by a 50 cal. (0.5) inch bullet, plowing a groove in the top of his skull and paralyzing the left side of his body.

There's also a ton of other variables we aren't considering here: flight direction, visibility and light conditions, etc. Confusing allies and enemies is not uncommon, especially when wounded or in distress.

But to get back on topic. The MW5 mod scene is exploding now. I will probably post a new thread to archive the latest and greatest:

And yes, the mod community has already fixed common complaints with the campaign and HUD :glee:

I can't wait to mistake my black and blue dropship for a white and yellow one, some 8-9 months from now when epic hopefully dies in fire and/or the game is released from their idiotarded exclusivity bs.

Yea, it wasn't just once that FAF would send two pairs (4 planes) to intercept ~100 Russian fighters. The FAF pilots repeatedly noted that some of the Soviets would accidentally chase and fire upon each other after their formation was surprised with a dive attack into the middle or so. The two great aces Juutilainen and Hasse Wind displayed two extreme ends of tactical preference, one staying out and above the main dogfight and picking out individual targets that he elimitated methodically while Wind would dive right in to the densest fighting, the former would never receive a bullet hit from an enemy and the latter would rarely return without having been hit. Of course combining both approaches creates a synergy - one stirs the beehive and is capable of surviving in the thick of it and the other one gets a ton of opportunities caused by the chaos.

On topic - I love these news about all these mods coming up. It is a comforting thought that in the not so distant future all of this sweetness will be available and ready to download when I will be looking to get a game going! :)

While several of the mods look interesting, I'm going to complete my first run through campaign stock. Looks that by that time there'll be enough mods to make it a much different playing game. Almost like playing the same game from two different devs.

Oh 100%. I always recommend finishing a game in vanilla first; helps to appreciate the changes made later. Mods are great for adding "shelf life" to the game after-the-fact.
