Most of the people I know personally are basically already in lockdown. We're only going out as needed for food.
From what I’ve heard all the University/college millennials are on spring break and going on flights everywhere and cruises because they are super cheap and they have the mindset of “only the old are getting it and dying”.
Well and being told to not come back to campus. And I think even the college's are pretty much cancelling the semester. Well at least most of the athletics stuff is cancelled.
So, now Europe is being put to lockdown - borders closings. I think I was wondering about this not being done over a month ago. As in, if it had been done early enough then Italy wouldn't be in the current state and so on. Just a thought - the need to be globalized and the stigma involved with shutting borders causes all reactions to occur at a time where the measures needed are two orders of magnitude as severe as they would otherwise be.
Canada has also shut it's borders as of yesterday. The Province of Ontario(my province) has declared a state of emergency. Canada Borders are closed to all international traffic/flights outside of trade. That means, no vacations, immigration or such to Canada. Air crews, Diplomats and as mentioned above, Trade, are still allowed through. Americans are also allowed through, but encouraged to delay any travel plans. Ontario All schools, day cares, restaurants and bars, movie theaters and such are closed until further notice. Take out and delivery options are still available for those restaurants that offer that service. Pharmacies, grocery stores, convenience stores are all still open. Construction is still continuing.
Pretty much how it is here. Though the places that are still open (grocery stores and such) are reducing their hours. Banks are still open. I think almost everywhere does delivery through door dash/Uber eats (and one or 2 others). I think everywhere has closed their dining rooms though (at least for eating in. Some places you might have to go through the dining room to pick up your order).
I don't know if this affects anyone, but the ADA will be telling dentists offices to close and only accept emergency patients. I only know this because my fiance is a DA.
Florida just banned the sale of alcohol in restaurants and bars for the next 30 days from what the news just announced. If you are in florida better go do your beer run now.
Do they want riots? And all the breweries, cideries and taprroms/winebars here (Charlotte, NC) are taking orders by phone and either doing curbside growlers (fill one and bring it out to your car), bring wine bottles out to your car. Some are even delivering. Either themselves or through something like door dash.
From what was said on the news 100's of thousands of millennial's are flooding Florida beaches for spring break not caring about what is going on with the coronavirus. The shutdown is to stop them from acting like fools. Government officials are getting very tired of their crap and not taking this seriously. One was even in a news interview crying about the new policy as they are in downtown orlando for saint Patrick's day and cant find a beer and saying that they are taking this seriously. Most restaurants and bars are only filled with millennial spring breakers at the moment. Most residents are taking this seriously from what ive seen. You can still buy alcohol at a grocer or liquor store, just not at a bar or restaurant for immediate consumption. All Schools closed till April 15 for Florida. No groups larger then 10. Restaurants are to be at 50% seating capacity. Theaters closed for at least the next 2 or 3 months. Other states 7 Counties in California are already under a shelter in place / quarantine order. New York could be going into a shelter in place/quarantine order some time within the next 48 hours from what Cuomo said.
Had our first case of corona at my place of employment yesterday. Here I am, waiting for my shift to begin today. Fuck this place... Also, I live in the epicenter of all things corona in Pa. Did I mention I have heart failure and that my wife works at a grocery store? ... I'm fucked
CDC has stated that people who are vulnerable to the virus should stay home. Employers should be complying with this.
Unfortunately not everyone gets sick pay and many can't afford a missed paycheck. One thing Trump may actually do right is send everyone cash, like they're actually putting through something that's supposed to give everyone literal money in their hands for the short-term to allow for people to actually stay the fuck home without losing their homes and starving to death. Its because of shit like this that other countries have actual safety nets like universal healthcare and mandated sick policies.
Over here schools and day care are open but you have to report to them how and why specifically your child needs to go there and cannot stay home - doctors and nurses are a top priority, they need a place for the younger ones that can't be left home alone and others who risk losing their jobs etc. can still keep their kids at day care and grades 1-3. It was seen that completely closing the day care especially would result in a massive drop in available nurses. Local Citymarket was still stocked to brim. We had a joke regarding our official State of Emergency: The Leftist Alliance got empty shelves to shops. The Christian Democrats got the bars closed. The True Finns got the borders closed. The National Coalition got subsidies for corporations. The Green League got all the planes grounded. The Center Party managed to have one of their oldest (and troublesome) member - Väyrynen - forced to stay at home! (Inside joke) (there was another, our next warship should be named Väyrynen because he never dies and always comes back)
Most of those countries only give 12 to 14 days of sick leave. Not much for what is going on but far better then the nothing in the US. With that being said they also get a minimum amount of vacation time of around 14 days or more. this is something that should have been fixed a long time ago in the USA. The check for every adult is supposed to be 650 to 1000 dollars per adult from what ive heard with two payments 1 or 2 months apart or so. Thats per adult so if you have multi adults in the same household you could be seeing up to a few thousand dollars to help. This is not final in anyway this is just possible info from what has been said in briefings on the virus. I wish they would put a hold on loan and lease payments.
A freeze on housing (mortgage/rent) payments would help out many in the short-term, just pretend March doesn't exist and nobody needs to pay anyone anything.
Paid sick leave or emergency leave past in the relief bill. Its good to know 99% of people I know work for companies with far more then 500 employees. So we are still fucked regardless.
