So I downloaded some of the core/recommended ones, put the .pak files in the pak folder, but they don't show up as mods in the mod page when you start the game. They have different file names for each .pak, anything I'm missing here to get them to work?

EDIT: hmm I think they're working after all just hard to tell sometimes.

If you did it right, they should still work. They just aren't showing up in the in-game mod list because PGI didn't program the in-game modlist to search for mods you manually installed. You can safely ignore the in-game modlist page.

The new way to install mods uses the modlist feature correctly, but the old install method (manually placing .pak files) still works.

Yeah they're working, hard to tell on some of them because I had no comparison point for the mechanics changes and rebalances. But the HUD is showing up with the advanced zoom option. I did most of the 'recommended' mods, list I included below:

    • Better Spawns - Enemies spawn less annoyingly and further away, giving you more time to respond.
    • Expanded Weapon Tool Tips - Better info on weapon and mech stats.
    • Guns of Kerensky: MW5E - Brings better balance to all vanilla weapons; made by yours truly because I love you all and you don't deserve me.
    • Marketplace Equipment Viewer - in the shop, mechs only display what weapons they carry, nothing else; this lets you see it all before buying.
    • Paint Theme Saving* - makes adding and changing paint schemes much easier!
    • 3D HUD - arguably the coolest looking alternative HUD available.
I'm thinking about the tonnage removal mod as I'm getting irritated I can't run my 4 best mechs (centurion, shadow hawk, jenner, javelin) at the same time and I'm pretty early in the campaign.

So far... my impressions are ok. Mostly due to the arcady nature of the constant 'waves' of enemies in every single fight. It just feels so artificial rather than having preset opponents on the map and heavier forces rather than weaker constant waves. Also blowing up tanks and turrets and helicopters 50x per mission just gets boring. Hoping it ramps up in fun when I get into the heavy/assault range of mechs.

Yeah, since the drop weights can fluctuate quite a bit, it's very annoying to have to keep switching out because you need to lose or gain a few arbitrary tons.

I wish the vanilla game gave you a little more flexibility in your drop weight. It would have made a lot more sense to have a "soft cap" recommendation for the mission and then reward or penalize you a proportionate amount of cash to go under or over it.

What's weird is that you do get this soft cap of some kind in Instant Action, but not in the campaign.

I use a mod called "better rewards". Ups the tonnage and negotiation points. Author pulled it around the time the new mod system rolled out. Don't know if he planned a new one or what. But it works with the mods we all generally use.
The file is a 7z file so I had to rename a zip file so the forum would let me upload it.
Almost seems like cheating early game but helps a lot during late game play.
Especially if you find yourself losing money on a lot of missions in repairs.

This eliminates one of the biggest annoyances in the game: AI-caused friendly fire.
