They have announced a roadmap. http://joinsquad.com/roadmap/ The next update will be Alpha 16 and the intended new feature for that will be helicopters and a new map. Beta 1 will appear after that containing the commander role but most focus will be on optimization Eventually we will see release version 1 which should come with some new factions. I feel like there might be some more releases between the ones they mentioned but maybe not.
We have a new roadmap and lots of fun things on it. Release dates might always change. 100 player testing is scheduled to start end of July. End of August will see a new map, Fallujah. There will also be a new faction, Middle Eastern Alliance (MEA). The Australian forces is set for the end of October. USMC is scheduled for December. During 2021 we will see the new Panasia faction.
