All credit to Cephy for coming up with the idea.
It's 2021 and that means setting unreasonable goals for self improvement! :glee:

But beside that, what's the harm in a little physical community challenge that we might actually complete?

    The rules are very simple:
    1. There are two forms of exercise: distance walking/running and weight lifting.
    2. As you gain miles, add the date next to the appropriate cell, to see how far you are on "your journey" to the Lonely Mountain.
    3. For weight lifting, you can total your weight multiplied by reps (weight * reps) for "slayer points" at the Battle of Five Armies.
    4. Make sure you're tracking your progress elsewhere just in case of accidents (we have a spreadsheet for that i can send you).
    5. When you reach the end of the journey you may spend your slayer points on monsters for the battle of the five armies.
    6. The challenge will end either at the end of the year or whenever we get bored.
    7. There is no prize for winning, so play fair and have fun with it!

You can submit your results here:
    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/14pjkgnmnBvnhhtjrzrh8ZcylNa-lpJcn15XWLyN9_o8/edit?usp=sharing

If you want to get a little more in shape, but need a little motivation, this is the perfect opportunity.
Let's see who defeats the ork hordes and claims the Lonely Mountain! :viking:

    Perfect and awesome!

I work with my bodyweight so the conversion to weight and reps is 1:1 :D

And as I was falling out of shape for the last 15 years I got a month's head start to this late last year, I already managed to get my push ups from ~20 per session to 110 per session.

Not doing a lot of jogging or walking so I'll just focus on being a tank. :viking:
Now, if I can just get the upper body part accommodated to 2x a week for most weeks... And maybe up the score itself while at it.

And now that you mentioned it, I recall that I live by our lake that has a land wall track going around the entire lake that just happens to be slightly over 20km... So instead of being satisfied with just tanking it I start to wonder if I could... :kidding:

This is a cool idea! I just submitted a request to access the spreadsheet.

Yeah, same here, but I have no good excuse other than I've been trying to get shit ready for this weekend (and the meeting we have Saturday). Chalking this up to holiday laziness.

for simplicity sure, but for accuracy, doing a pushup isn't exactly 100% of your body weight, all of your weight is supported but the resistance is reduced for the actual action because of the lever effect. If you could figure out how to push with both your hands and feet simultaneously you could get 100% lol. I mean, if you were doing a 1:1 pushup that would mean that you could absolutely bench press your own weight. I can do a pushup, I would hesitate to try to bench press myself, though. XD

I might also suggest including some kind of scoring for non-weight exercises like resistance bands and such. I'm sure it would be possible to figure out the exact amount of resistance but that's math and work and why not simply simplify it to something like reps x estimated resistance. It's for funzies anyway so accuracy is less important than the end results. I have been playing ring fit and they don't exactly give you a weight equivalent to the ring resistance. XD

Pretty much now, but some of us are being lazy. I plan to start after our meeting on Saturday when we announce it to everyone there.

Ok. I still don't have access to the spreadsheet (even though requested a couple days ago), so will write down what I do on a sheet of paper in the meantime.

Spreadsheet access is working great now; thank you!

Have a question on the cardio rules... for cardio I've been doing all running & walking so far, and I know that's a 1:1 ratio on miles. Does bicycling count at all, and if so is that also a 1:1 ratio on miles or something different?

I'm still being a lazy shit. All my time is getting sucked up trying to get this Battletech mod working. Plan to start as soon as it's done.

Hey, just wanted to ask again if anyone in charge has made a call on if bicycling counts. I biked quite a bit this past week and really want to know whether to count it or not... my computer is really bad off for gaming right now (and new graphics cards are impossibly hard to get) so all I've got is the physical challenge for fun, haha

I don't see why not. If the Fellowship had access to bicycles, they probably would have used them. IIt will mean your "journey" will be over pretty soon, though.

Well... the segway probably shouldn't count, but sure. lol

I'd say double the distance for Bikes... simply because it doesn't take as much energy to go the same distance as it does with running/walking it.

Lol, I love the LOTR biking graphics. Yeah, definitely agreed that segway or ebike would defeat the purpose... and also agree that it should take two bike miles to equal one walking/running mile... that's what I'll do. I like doing hikes when I've got the time and I like going for runs around the neighborhood, but I also want to branch out and get into more bicycling and this is a good way to do it. Went for ride with a bicycle club last week and got a good 12 miles in.

Well I started running for proper now. Just realized that I need some way to elevate my cardio levels and also lose some of the fat gained by the calorie surplus of the first training regime of this year. Got this really nice up to 20+ km long 'wall route' that is a land wall surrounding our artificial lake with the running track going at the top of the landwall around the entire perimeter of the long lake. Really enjoyable. I ran 8.8km today and will probably keep at roughly this distance because my the feet become numb halfway through.

Also the weights at my deadlifts are going up nicely and already worked my way above my body weight in three months more than tripling my initial weights and total work done.

Got all the total lift amounts marked up since I need to keep good track of my training anyway.

This is how I'm going to die. Unreasonable amounts of self-improvement.
