*GREAT NEWS, EVERYBODY!* We have a confirmed launch date (May 27th) for MW5 on Steam, Xbox, and GoG, plus shiny new DLC! (no information yet for crossplay, so I strongly recommend prioritizing a PC copy)!

Regarding the Skjaldborg, this doesn't change our plans for the HBS Battletech campaign. My intentions is to not plan anything for day-1 MW5 release as this will be the first time that many get to play it. Instead, I will organize a large Co-op Campaign for Mw5 for later in June after everyone has gone through the "honeymoon period" with the game and are hungry for something new.

So far to my knowledge, the Epic Games Store and Microsoft Store versions of MW5 still are not cross compatible for any sort of multiplayer coop. There is no guarantee that they will make the Steam version work with the others for any sort of match making. Now they may pull it off which would be great so that everyone can play together, but it also may require the moding community to do it.

Also the way that Microsoft does their file structure for instillations, mods are a royal pain originally. There may be some improvements on that thanks to Flight Simulator, but the structure changes are not necessarily compatible with how the current MW5 moding community are designing their mods to interact with the core game files.

TLDR: Don't assume that you can play with everyone else unless you bought the game through the same store as everyone else did. Don't assume that all mods will work with the Microsoft store version.

This is why I did -n0t- buy the game from either of those locations, I was content to pay $5 for the service and play for free. I will buy the game on Steam, when it is available and my old save will be of no value. (unless there's someway to port it in)

For fuck's sake how is Epic so bad at this shit? Like I expect it from Microsoft since they've had their heads lodged firmly in their colons for decades now, but Epic is not exactly new to this whole "video games" thing. It's like the team's mission statement is "hey, let's see how badly we can cock things up and still get someone to give us money."

Regarding modding, I don't think it will be a problem with or without Steam Workshop. MW5 utilizes the Unreal Editor and I'm pretty sure that works regardless of the platfrom (it definitely works with Epic's broke-ass launcher). Also, MW5 comes with basic mod support (again, separate from Steam Workshop).

MH is right, though; I wouldn't pre-order until we know for sure. However, I'd be very surprised if GoG and Steam copies of the game didn't talk to each other. I'm less certain about Epic and/or MS' game pass. If I recall correctly, MW5 is not heavily reliant on store launchers to do its thing. There's no online login checks; the game is pretty "self-contained". I would not be surprised if it turns out most PC copies can play fine together. I'm less familiar with MS Game Pass; might be other road blocks there. Xbox is another whole can of worms. Just wait and see.

We won't be certain until we get more info.

The Microsoft issues are hopefully resolved, but that's not a guarantee. Basically xBox gamepass would install the game files into a protected system folder, because, well Microsoft, and why not use that to protect the files because we are the OS developer as well. With the advent of mods being supported officially they had to change the way the game folder structure works so that you could have save games and mods that would be referenced from different folder directories by the core game. So while you should be able to install mods, it is a different folder system so depending on how the mod does its lookups or dependencies there is the chance that the author didn't get it all right.

The PGI posting on it from last year is here: https://mw5mercs.com/news/2020/06/40-mod-support-for-mw5-mercs-microsoft-versions

TLDR: Microsoft used to require you to edit the system registry files to mess with mods, because that is a smart way to do it.

I mean this is the same company who somehow managed to break the mailto: protocol handler and hasn't fixed it after like five years, even though there's something in Windows Explorer that uses it in a way that causes some people to get a popup about it being broken every single time they start their computer. I swear their departments have some kind of contest going to see who can piss off the most people before an angry mob shows up and burns down the building with all of them still inside.

To be fair, the latter is the industry standard. You can't release paid-DLC that splits the player community... unless you are EA or Activision and secretly despise your own customers.

I am already uninstalling the Epic launcher. Will be snapping up all the goods on Steam when it comes out.

Epic is going away from my PC once Phantom Brigade comes to steam. It's fun for what's in it. though a bit repetitive. Simultaneous tactical turn based. By simultaneous I mean your turn and the enemy take place at the same time. Not only that but movement and firing\defensive stuff happens at the same time. I swear we had a thread for it but I can't find it (or maybe it was just mentioned in a "games coming out" thread)

also I prefer the Heavy rifle already over the AC 20. Because range and speed make up for the loss in damage (only 2 points) and fire rate. Not to mention almost half the weight.

What is the benefit of chem lasers over regular lasers? it seems like the extra tonnage for the chem laser ammo doesn't offset the lower heat. Do chem lasers have a much shorter duration? Which I think should be a stat in the lasers.

Also steam apparently let me load my EGS save without any importing. no mods were ever installed. no digging into files and moving stuff.
