New World is coming out at the end of August and there is a current Closed Beta going on. Showing a lot of promise and I plan on diving in myself. There’s some Elder Scrolls Online ish to it? More action oriented. No number pressing. You have light and heavy attacks, strings in each. Don’t know if you can string light and heavy. Then you have three Abilities tied by default to Q, R, F. Can swap to second weapon and hit those abilities while on cool down also. Active blocking and dodging. No auto attacks. Collision is apparently on when your weapons are unsheathed, off when they're tucked away Crafting and gathering actually gives you leveling experience. No NPC stores except basic Faction gear you can buy
I'm not opposed to it, but I personally will be waiting until after it is out of Beta. Glad to see all that Amazon money going towards something that is actually kind of successful.
Did anyone ever jump into this? I've been vaguely eyeing it, but I'm not a huge MMORPG guy. Still, setting and art are interesting.
More like illuminati, tony montoya land pirates, or revivalist cult. The decision between land pirate and revivalist cult is a particularly difficult one for me.
Another way of looking at it is there's one faction looking to brute force bend the new land to their will, and two looking to be changed by the strangeness of it.
So, having put a few weeks into this game, I can confidently say that New World is not bad. But, it's definitely not great either. This game has failed to keep me interested and playing and I've moved on to other games already, but I don't let that distract me from the potential the game has. It has some very interesting concepts, story has this aura of mystery that keeps you interested, and the setting is a very peculiar choice for an MMO which they manage to pull off very well. Quests are pedestrian at best, and boring at worst. Combat feels clunky due to things like weapon switching and certain skills being locked behind fairly long animations with no means of canceling them. And the NPC AI can be infuriatingly dumb at times, especially when it comes to pathing. The game, while fairly polished, isn't without its bugs, glitches, and cheese mechanics that can be abused. Overall, it's a decent PvP Action MMO that has its fair share of faults, but has a team (and the money backing them) committed to fixing those faults and making the game better. If you like the game currently, by all means continue to play and enjoy yourself. If you were on the fence, I'd recommend holding off for a little bit until the game is a little more stable, both in bugs and mechanics, but also in population.
Do you think pops are bad? I haven't noticed a lot of crowds, but the server never seems dead either. But I really haven't tried the RvR stuff yet.
Okay, just for the record, I really don't like raining on parades for games. Honestly, I was really rooting for this one because Amazon Games really needed a win. That being said, I've come across some new information that I think should give everyone some pause (even if you really like the game). Nevermind gameplay, there's apparently some fundamental flaws with the base coding that are real deal-breakers, enough so that I felt it necessary to post this here. I don't really understand the details, but I trust the source of the information. Watch and make your own conclusions. If someone has evidence to show the info is actually, factually wrong, please let us know.
There really isn't much information presented, it's a generic meme angry gamer youtube rant about amazon-twitch-facebook conspiracy, client side hit detection promotes cheating and packet bombing claims from late 1990s, all other streamers are shills, psy-op mk ultra marketing skinner box stanford prison experiment subliminal, hackers are gonna hack the world with html, I'm the sheepdog, subscribe to my buddies, evidence: THE WORD 'SPONSORED' and a lot of informal petitio principii fallacy.
Honestly the main issue I've noticed thus far is that I think the game is somewhat asset light in terms of reused armor/weapon geometry and creatures, and I think customization could be a lot better than the limited selection of fetal alcohol syndrome faces available at character creation - and character looks/hair can't be customized later. Other than that stuff seems to look and run pretty good. But some of those things do make the game feel a bit... early... compared to a lot of MMOs of recent years that have launched with fucktons of content. Of course, quite a few of those didn't survive long, so if amazon can expand on a pretty decent foundation they may do ok. I agree with Audit that I wish attack animations could be cancelled more quickly, but that may be a concession to PvP and block timing.
I hear you, it does sound very ranty at first, but I don't feel the messenger 'just being a dick' is a very compelling explanation. Hear me out on this. I'm honestly posting this in good faith. I'm not the kind of person who enjoys being an alarmist and that isn't my intent here. Regarding the source, ACG is probably one of the better impartial youtube game reviewers I've come across. He's not talking conspiracy theories. He even explains some of the problems in the video itself. But if that's not enough for some, here's more solid proof for you. This guy actually demonstrates many game-breaking bugs in the game right now. This was posted two days ago... And there's more. I'm not saying never play New World again; apparently many of these same problems were an issue with other MMO's in the past, but right now it *seems* the game is actually, factually vulnerable to some really nasty hacking... enough that a person can maliciously crash your computer. That should at least on the surface be a concern to anyone and that is why I posted this. People can ignore the information if they want, but it looks plenty damn real to me. Take that for what you will.
I didn't call him a dick, but there was a lot of bold accusations and appeal to motive but very little evidence presented backing it. I wouldn't be especially surprised by an exploits cropping up closely after launch on a new MMO, but if I'm tasked to justify my choices by refuting a non-argument my only course is to dissect the rhetorical flaws in the presentation.
Amazon Games has made some questionable choices, in my opinion, in regards to population controls. Having only 1 character per server rule-set, not even server, but entire server rule-set. And then only being able to have 2 characters across the entire game? This basically forced everyone onto the "established" servers for fear of having 1 of their only 2 characters being stuck on a dead realm. This in turn led to severe population locks on those servers early on.
