Supervisor during interview: "Yes, of course you will have full flex time and can work whenever and wherever it suits you the best. We don't care about micromanagement in this company!"

Supervisor after interview: "I expect you to be at the office during standard bank hours"

Also supervisor: "Make this widget to 3x the scale and have it reviewed before submitting it"
"WHY THE FUCK IS THIS WIDGET SO BIG AND WHY DID YOU NOT HAVE IT REVIEWED WHEN TOLD TO DO SO? DO YOU REALLY THINK WE NEED A WIDGET THIS BIG HUH?"

-"Yes, it is the size you requested and was reviewed before being submitted. If you want it smaller I can change the scale parameter of it to be <3.0"

Poor guy. Main office promised his project would be done by certain date before he was even given the project details and it was published by marketing. Now he's sick at home for whole week while trying to explain to the headquarters that he was given an impossible task to begin with and that he doesn't have the resources to pull it off.

I don't envy him, that's for sure. Also I won't get triggered by his deteriorating output as he is verging on a burnout. Yet I will also not relinquish my hard earned privileges just because someone is on the verge of a burnout. I know that I work well and that I am a veteran and I have not once complained about being tasked with trivial "fix someone else's mess" task for 6 months as opposed to prototyping, design and coming up with new implementations which are my core strengths and skills.

I will simply reply in laconic fashion and answer any irrational accusations as if they were rational inquiries. I ran a studio myself without funding and I know what it feels like to carry heavy burdens and to feel being crushed by it. I know he is not being personal, he is just reeling under pressure and lashing out because of psychological pain.

    Having a laugh.

Linked the Bismarck song with the video that features the real flags and all that it had.

This instantly triggered one of my friends "it annoyed me that you linked a video where it had a Nazi flag on it"

-"Are you trying to tell me that the actual Nazis were...

    ....Nazis?!"

I think a lot of places like to replace the Nazi flags with the Weimar Republic flag.

You know it was not that they were Nazis who wanted to murder Jews that made them bad but the fact that they were.. German?

I will continue my rant on Sabaton songs here to not derail the music topic.

Simply put, Sabaton has joined the popular culture view that all the soldiers engaged in the Great War were just constantly crying, desperate and wanting to get out of there and so on.

This is not supported by historical contemporary accounts from the front that depict the contemporary morale of the actual troops fighting the war. Reading several accounts from both sides on the West Front the soldiers - even when suffering from shell shock that causes permanent loss of ability to handle stress etc., despite it all the soldiers stood steadfast and maintained a good morale and insisted they were overwhelmingly ready to fulfill their duty and carry out the war. Sure they rejoiced when the war ended - at least on the winning side - but when have the winning side not rejoiced at the end of hostilities?

In fact the very reason Hitler became so popular heavily revolves around the experience of the German infantryman who did not experience that they were being defeated, that the front was collapsing and so on - their experience was that they were fighting hard, sometimes even pushing the enemy back if they put themselves to it and selling every inch at great cost and that they were going to keep on bleeding the enemy white as they were mostly giving up foreign territory that they had gained earlier.

Thus this experience did not sit well with the notion that they were defeated and became humiliated with the peace terms and caused a widespread sense of betrayal and anger.

Also the war was not being waged idiotically. In every war there are mistakes committed but overall the Great War was generally largely professionally handled and fought in the manner of a war of attrition to the successful conclusion of the attrition forcing one side to surrender without having to actually physically seize all the major cities, the capital etc. as it occurred in WW2.

As to individual armies having difficulties to incorporate the best of doctrines - this did happen. Especially the British Army appeared to be in many regards extremely stiff. They would bombard the enemy hard whereas the Australians had major successes with relatively very short artillery strikes preceding their charges and suffered almost paradoxically far less casualties on their charges with but a fraction of the artillery preparations than the British for one did. The French doctrine pre-war emphasized light infantry and Elan, a sense of relentless charge by fast moving troops while ignoring casualties to break the enemy morale by display of superior morale and overwhelming the enemy locally to achieve breakthrough. This especially had many difficulties in adapting to the nature of modern warfare.

That said not all appearingly pointless charges were pointless. The same strategies are employed to this date - if you want to achieve a breakthrough in Sector A you must also commit sufficient forces in Sector B to force the enemy to defend there so he cannot reinforce A from B. That means that in B you're not even expecting a breakthrough and your troops are simply suffering casualties in order for the A's casualties to not be in vain. Or similarly, if the enemy commits massive forces to A and threatens breakthrough there you can now attack him in B and he may be forced to pull some of the attack's reserves to defend B, thus relieving the pressure from their attack at A.

This is standard military strategy. That's also what my role in the armored jägers would have been for quite a lot - to attack the flanks of attacking enemy to force them to redeploy for defense, relieving pressure and allowing their target to be reinforced. Or alternatively counter-attacking to deny them their recent gains by hitting the already weakened spearhead hard.

Spoiler, but since they're in a Final Destination movie, the cause of death for most of them is just ruled as "they are in a Final Destination movie."

Heh, it's Garth Ennis. The live action version is toned down.
