Did you open it through the Discovery folder? I had the same problem when trying to go through vanilla Freelancer, you have to use the new .exe in the mod folder.
Were all base around the American part of space at the moment but also doing runs in brit and jap space.
You have to run the Discovery with its own .exe. BTW, Skwis, we are currently on the Discovery 24/7 RP server if you didn't know. It's a bit harder to get started there, but it's much more fun. Also, lots of other players around too.
may check that server out. Are they hardcore about roleplaying or is it more come and have fun style?
I was running it in the wrong folder, which I realized after the post and went to play sp there. I just had a look at the multiplayer section there, and the code has already been generated. It was vanilla which was giving me the problem. Thanks for the help everybody.
There is a list of rules for RP 24/7 server, but they aren't that complicated; Just don't be an idiot, exploit game mechanics and remember that you are roleplaying when dealing with other people on the server. Of course we don't RP on the TS when playing, just with other players. I'd still recommend reading the rules personally. Once you get the hang of it, Discovery 24/7 RP is a great place to spend all of your precious free time.
Damit you people, woke my love for space sim/ trading games, I use to play tradewars 2002 back in the BBS games, now I can play freelancer again.. sigh we need 50 million, so we can make our own tag, /maketag <tag> <master password> <description> Use this command to create a new tag. Creating a new tag costs 50 million credits. The <tag> parameter is a 3-23 letter tag. The <master password> is the password used to drop the faction tag (in order to change the master password) or to set the rename password. The <description> is intended to provide an indication of the group that owns tag, i.e. their name and officiality status. /droptag <tag> <master password> Use this command to delete a tag. The <tag> and <master password> parameters should be the same as used in the /maketag command. Dropping the tag and re-creating it is the only way to change the master password. /settagpass <tag> <master password> <rename password> This command is used to set or clear the rename password. The <tag> and <master password> parameters should be the same as used in the /maketag command. If this password is set then people must use /renameme to create a ship name starting with this tag. If not, the tag is owned, but unprotected. Currently I am a Bretonian Citizen working on transporting goods, I have a decent trade route, and in 2 rotation I should be able to upgrade to a ship that can carry 560 instead of the 170+ I am getting now.
I think most everyone on is on that RP server. So far as I know, only Skwi, You, Hunter(who's on both) Orc, Haki, and myself are on Disco USA
I'm on the RP 24/7 server now. Actually easier to get started. type /restart [faction] to start with decent equipment and rep.
For those who are still confused about compatibility of ships, IDs and weapons in Discovery: HELPFUL LINK
I used to play free lancer with some friends and it was very cool. Even played alone for a long time trying every mod i could. But in the end i falled in love with the X series. It's a bit rough, hard to understand. But once you have done that it's the deepest space sim ever built. You start in a little ship doing anything to raise some money. Then you understand that you can control more than one ship at a time thru AI. Soon enough you have universe traders running all over the universe, while you fly on a carrier, escorted by your 2-3 battleships. But hey, then you know you can make all sort of space stations to produce anything you ever need, even other ships. In the end you start to use serveral mods, and get various fleets counting hundres of ships flying around, and decide that the "true end of the game" is the conquering of any system in the known universe. What you can get from the actual gameplay is amazing. It requires a lot of will to actually start to play, but you will get rewarded. After over 600hours of active play on X 2-3-TC i can say no other single player game has given me so much. If u ever want to try just try X3-TerranConflict don't waste time on X3 albion prelude(the last "expansion") becouse it's just for the people waiting X - rebirth, the new X serie videogame coming out next year. If u know EVE, it's pretty much similar harsh and unforgiving world for the newbie with too many and hard mechanics to understand at once. Hope anyone can find interest in this
I played a lot of X2/3 but in the end the solo nature of the game killed it for me. I didn't want to just cruise around in my battleship surrounded by AI that I had to tell when to jump and how high. I wanted a fleet of people that could react on their own.
So the freelancer copy that was previously pm'ed out isn't working for me, I was getting desperate and hunting amazon and ebay but not quite sure I want to drop $20+ for a disk that's sitting somewhere in my office 5 states away and out of reach for the next month and a half, if anyone has any ideas please pm me I'd love to get back into it.
I never played it and well dont have much time to now but if someone may have heard from some guy somewhere on where to pick up a free version that works I would like to give it a look.
