http://www.dp9.com/ At the bottom of the page, new PC game coming. Please dear Lord let this see the light of day.
Concept art if good starting point. I probably enjoyed the gameplay and realism of heavy gear even more battletech, so if this gets cancelled, I think I'll lose my shit.
I liked these but I didn't play multi much. Still, looking forward to a new one! I hope it takes a year or two, though, have tons of mech stuff coming out to play!
Heavy Gear 2 is in my personal top 3 games. I'm more than thrilled on this development and plus there's the new pnp RPG in the works.
Gears are about as different from mechs as you can get and still be humanoid robots (except maybe gundams). They use internal combustion engines, are no more than ~5 meters tall, and are piloted with VR equipment. They are also MUCH weaker than tanks in a stand up fight, so their only real advantage is versatility and speed. Heavy Gear games focus a great deal on tactics and team work, even in single player. You usually have to manage a squad of gears on covert missions, so things like sniper rifles, long range lasers, and even mortar launchers are standard weapons. Stealth plays a big part, since tanks can rape you if you get too close to them. This video shows a good deal of their abilities. Its the intro to heavy gear 2. more info is on wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heavy_Gear As far as similarities, uh... they both have robots and use realistic weaponry? About all the similarities I can think of really. MWO focuses on teamwork, the previous games really didn't need it that much in single player.
You're smaller, faster, and anti-tank/anti-gear missiles are rocket-propelled, heat-seeking death. The graphics in HG2 were fantastic for their time but, alas, it was one of the many old games that just bugged out mid-way through the campaign (for me). MechWarrior 3 was another of those games...
ERMAHGERD HERVY GERH i remember playing this lol got both games.... ahh the good ol days of gaming lol
Heavy Gear if I am not mistaken occurred when Activision lost the contract for MW (sad day). They still wanted to have a mech game out there so they took on the Heavy Gear License. Was a good game but the History of MW and the Byzantine politics is what always held my attention. Heavy Gear could compete on play but IMO not on background story.
I did like the story of the first Heavy Gear alot plus they had fucking landships. BT doesn't have those. http://www.starshipmodeler.org/gallery6/se_vig.htm I mean it's an assault carrier that hovers.
I've been following Heavy Gear as an RPG for at least 2-3 years now, slowly building up my library with its books. I love its tabletop system as it's rather simple to learn and get accustomed to, yet with enough complexity to handle all situations. This is one game I'm seriously looking forward to and hope it will be good. Though, judging by what I have seen or heard so far, this won't be a single player campaign like the first two games but rather an Arena based game. After all, one of the major products of dp9 at the moment is the HG Arena dueling miniature game. So... While we wait for our own Solaris Circuit, HG sounds sweet!
