I'l jump on this train in a few weeks once money becomes available. To bad we here in the cold north need to wait another two days as far as i can tell.
Was some what hyped after that trailer and then saw it needed origin. Screw that, its why I stopped playing Battlefield 3. Heard stories of origin scanning your computer and sending tons of info back to EA.. why its banned in germany if memory serves. thought it was just stories to. Then... Randomly noticed my computer was being somewhat taxed and i wasnt doing anything on it. My computer is a recent self built gaming rig with high end everything. So i started a few programs one being a packet tracer and noticed my computer was sending almost a mbps of info to some origin server. cant remember if i saved the log of all the packets i captured.. should have to know what was being sent if i wanted to later on. After that stupidity never got on again.
I may buy it if it is on sale. But I HATE the idea of having server side only saves and having to pick a server just to play a single player game.
I'm setting up a 16-man region in the am tomorrow. If anyone is interested in a skjaldborg mega-city, feel free to send me a friend invite in origin (username is still Stynnes, shockingly)
Wants to find out how to manipulate the processes Origin is using to do this. Wants to send terabytes of porn to EA's servers. And Dihm links, ALL the Dihm links.
I have to say, the game is worth dealing with origin. Last night I started a private region named Skjaldborg set up w 16 city spots if anyone wants an invite to it. Let me know and send me a friend request on origin. Also tons of ore for export
Maybe I am missing something, but it looks like it has less features then Cities XL. Like the whole supply chain system has been in Cities for a while. They may be making it a little prettier though. From my understanding the new SimCity does not even have subways. It also looks like the cities are really restrictive on the size you can build in.
Since installing the game a few hours after it was released on Tuesday, I have YET to be able to play it. The furthest I've gotten was the load screen to visit the second city during the tutorial, at which point connection to server was lost and forced me to close the game. Every single server has been either Busy or Full, and this has been at various times across three days now. The wait timer is just insulting. I could forgive the online requirement if I could actually, you know, play what should be a single-player game! I knew EA was bound to pull some unscrupulous shit, but not having anywhere near the server capacity necessary when they knew of the problems from the three open betas, in addition to knowing pre-order numbers, this amounts to willful neglect of product service. As excited for SimCity as I was, without any means of actually playing it, I regret to advise others to not buy SimCity. I apologize if I may have lead anyone to buy this non-playable game.
all i can say about this is... for once it was a boon to live in the good ol Europe. I have had no real problems... Then again my plan was to stick to sandbox mode for at least a week after release as EA worked out the kinks in the system.
Good news. Someone's already modded the game so you can play indefinitely without a connection. So you can look forward to that soon.
