    I'm done.

Last night, I ended what was a wonderful evening with friends and family dry heaving into a toilet, like a teen spring breaker with a hangover. Why? Because of a vicious headache brought on by the enormous pollen count. I made the mistake of thinking that I could grill -- outside. I wouldn't be so pissed if it was an isolated incident, but this is becoming a reoccurring theme.

I'm not used to this falling ill and seasonal allergy crap. Something has changed; my body and the planet is now at war. Prior to turning thirty, I was at harmony with nature in small dosages. But now, as if I needed another reason to avoid the outdoors, I can't seem to avoid suffering from monthly allergy attacks. I must literally pop a pill daily or stay indoors. And even that sometimes doesn't cut it.

Have anyone seen that film, the Happening? It's a Shyamalan movie in which the trees release a neurotoxin causing mass suicides within the human population. As stupid as it may sound, it's becoming my reality. /end rant

Fellow Borgians how are you surviving this seasonal onslaught?

    Pop "a" pill?

Zertec (2x per day), Singular, dymista (4x) and nasonex(4x). go see an allergist. get yourself a nice cocktail.

This whole allergy thing is new to me, so as silly as this question may sound: Is it normal to have to take so many meds? Admittedly, I prefer to take as little meds as possible. Same thing applies to seeing the doctor, as they're in the habit of dishing out the meds. I prefer to reserve the destruction of my liver for recreational drinking.

But, you're correct I need to see an allergist.

I have mild allergies overall... so Sorry, can't help. Off the shelf brand stuff usually works for me.

I went to a rib fest on Saturday. I was outside for 3 hours. My hands and arms broke out in tiny bubbles that made me want to scrape off my skin until today. Whole weekend spent in Benadryl stupor and slathered with creams. Second time this year it has happened.

I would talk to your doctor about whether shots would help you. I used to have serious indoor allergies, and after about 3 years of shots, they're almost completely gone.

Don't know if it's good for everyone, but it's worth a look.

I can agree 100% about the allergies sucks thing. I have to take an antihystamine daily, usually Claritin, but my body builds up resistance so I have to switch brands every few months.

I also have to take Sudafed, and not the on the shelf stuff, at least once if not twice a day (12 hour). When my allergies are really bad, I have Benadryl, but it wipes me out for about 12 hours (drunken stupor wiped out).

Shots work well for some people, not so much for me.

My sinuses are bad to begin with, if my allergies act up at all, I shut completely down.

  8. My mom suffered horribly for years. She went to multiple allergists, got shots, took pills, etc. She was actually getting allergy shots weekly. When I moved out and took our dog with me it got a little better but still not great. Finally she went to a specialist who did a MRI on her sinus cavity and found it was 70% blocked with a fungal infection. Apparently it had been there for a very long time and nobody had seen it or even thought to look for it before.

One sinus surgery later and her breathing is SO MUCH BETTER.

Definitely go see an allergist. I'm not trying to scare you into thinking you've got some horrible worst-case scenario but you never know until you get checked.

Hayfever when i mow the lawn and slight allergy to gats and dogs (dander on dogs if they are kept clean i have no issues). So pretty much anytime im going to be doing outside work i need to take some allergy stuff. Or my breathing gets screwy. Its actually not that bad this year. Currently suffering from some poison oak. Watch out for that shit. Not much you can do about poison ivy, oak or sumac other than get rid of the oils. Then just let it heal though it will be really itchy.

lol meant cats and dogs. I hate this update to the android OS for my phone. IT DOESN'T EVEN TELL ME IF I'VE MISSED CALLS. and it seems far easier to hit the wrong letter when typing too.

The amount of drugs is proportionate to the severity of your allergies. I've had to take two different medications simultaneously, one that opened up sinuses and another directly for allergy.

There are nowadays anti-allergy drugs that don't wear you down. It was a drag having to take stuff several times a day that knocked the shit out of you.

It is always good to have sinuses checked with ultrasound in case there's some infection there. Then it can be flushed out if it's bad. I've had some bad sinus infection removed three times. Once the aenesthetics didn't work and the doctor didn't find the soft spot. I'm sorry if I keep bringing this up but FFS someone was scraping the skull bone at the inner rear of my nose with a 15 inch metal spike for 5 minutes before finding the spot. Without aenesthetics. That kinda left a vivid everlasting memory.

Not an image of me but simply to illustrate

Then they pull the spike part from the hollow one and put in a water tube and flush the sinuses from the hole they've created.

I much prefer using this on my own:

It does a good job of flushing the sinuses of any early infections and/or particles that you might be allergic to.

I know how you feel bro. I suffer from light sensitivity and allergies so summer outside the city can be torture when you also add in swarms of hornets that are typical to rural areas here especially late summer. Those fuckers bite into your skin and don't let go even if you dive into water or if you slap them.

Did the whole shot deal as a kid, some helped some didn't. Today I use either Claritin D 12hr or zertec 12hr, the 24hrs versions do nothing for me. There is something to the idea of eating a spoonful of locally produced honey each day to help get used to the pollen In that area.

  14. I've been hearing that lately too. I don't personally have allergy issues but my wife does and somebody at her work was telling her about that.

Thanks for the feedback all. I really like the local honey as a natural alternative.

I developed allergies while living in a valley in Japan. The seasons kicked my butt. Now I am back in California where it is nice and dry. Good luck ike!

It's worked for me. Just make sure you get local and raw. Some people just get raw thinking it's all the same, but building your immunity to MD pollen does fuck all if you're in CA. Or they get local honey that's been processed and has gotten rid of all the shit you need for it to work.

Or you could just do what I do and shove your face in a beehive.

i do have seasonal allergies... but they are rather light and i can tolerate them for the most part without the use of meds. however when i hit my mid 30's i started developing an allergic reaction to my favored brand of body/hair care products. i broke out in hives and it took me an agonizing few weeks and a trip to a dermatologist to figure out that it was them giving me hell on earth. ended up switching my entire line of hygiene products (soap, shampoo, conditioner and detergent for washing my clothing) to an all natural lineup that had zero dyes, perfumes or other unneeded crap in them.

I've been doing research on allergens since it is still fairly new to me. Again sorry if this is well known. Something in particular that I found to be amusing: Allergens are like stackable debuffs. A body can take so many allergens, until it reaches a threshold and all hell let loose. In which you get the negative reactions.

Earlier in the week I had some Chinese, which made me feel a bit off. I concluded that they must have used peanut oil. The weekend was filled with sugar (apparently one of the worst allergens around) due to celebrating two birthdays (my grandma and mom) and of course Memorial day. Extensive time outdoors and increase in pollen = dead hooker in the bathroom allergy attack. Last time things got really bad for me involved a lot of sugar.

Anyway I need to listen more to my body and do a better job of avoiding allergens.
