Ah man. That was a close battle. Set to 25 mil max forces. Made myself a medium lance with a light that came to 18.8 mil. Fought against a Heavy Assault lance that came to 25.
    Forces were:
    Commando
    HBK-4G
    HBK-4P
    Trenchbucket
    vs.
    Vindicator
    Centurion
    Orion
    Awesome

Only the awesome walked away, and he was missing half of his 'mech. I still lost, but at least I know I can hold my own(mostly) against a heavier force.

I have found that a sound strategy vs the AI involves two decently tanky mechs to move in first, and two with higher firepower to maneuver around the battle and dish out the hurt. The AI seems to go for the closest mechs unless there is a lighter one nearby. For example, the AI likes to chase locusts with heavy mechs.....

Urbanmech vs locust. And ac20 cannot hit the side of a barn. When all it can see is the side of the barn.

    Same as it ever was.

Also, the Urbie variant we have is the AC/10 one... but it hits hard due to the AC/10 being buffed.

Did a match i had a commando, hunchback, kintaro and quickdraw against a vi dicator, centurion, orion and awesome and won. I split my hunchie and quickdraw one way with commando and kintaro going another way on big loch. Hunchie and quickdraw went against the cent (and took it out), orion (also nearly taken out cause of jj behind and shooting in the back) and the awesome. Commando and kintaro had no trouble taking out the vindicator and while moving to engage the orion and awesome the commando got taken out. I got the kintaro behind the awesome with its back to orion betting on it surving one round of fire from orion (kintaro had full rear armor). It did survive and next round i could get it behind both the orion and awesome and since wildfire was piloting fired on both. Took out the orion with that shot and took one of the side torsos of the awesome. Next turn finished off the awesome.

The Kintaro is brutal if it can use water for cooling.

Quickdraw is pretty nice for knifing people in the back.

It is, but with 140dmg at close range to the Kintaro's 215dmg, similar heat problems, weak armor, heavy mech initiative, and the most nerfed melee capabilities in the game it's pretty hard to justify that high price tag for jump jets alone.

Especially if you put wildfire or kraken (i think those are the only two pilots with the multifire skill) in the kintaro. They can really shred stuff then. Now i need to do a match with both of them ina kintaro.

holy crap that combination of mechs is good. Kraken and Wildfire in Kintaros, with Arclight (for the inititive bonus) in an orion so she moves in the same phase as mediums and my 4th mech was a centurion A. An atlas was a paperweight to that combo. The two kintaros to know it down with all those missiles and the orion call shot on the head. Actually the Atlas took so many head hits the pilot died . the head is still on the mech.

I think the LRMs are a bit too generous on knockdowns just from a gameplay perspective, its really easy to basically knock anything over in 1 round and call a shot on it, needs to be toned down so its a viable tactic but with a bit more setup required.

yeah the knockdown does need to be toned down. I think on all weapons. especially the missiles.

I think it should be toned up on the heavy hitters, but down on the missiles, or more appropriately, it should scale on the missiles by the damage done, if they're more miss than iles they should totally not stagger nearly as much. SRM's AC/10&20's and Gauss should provide significant impact. Also, it'd be nice if they could fall down in different orientations, as it is they always fall down on their back, I realize that's more for balancing than anything else, but I'd enjoy it if you could tactically encourage them to fall forward or even on their side.

I am curious why PPCs generate any of the knockdown meter. They are still just energy. and isn't part of the whole point of the gyro in the mech to help it stay balanced and make it more difficult to knock down? and so far it seems like the meter is the same across all weight classes like two attacks will knock a mech down no matter if it is a light mech or an assault. Shouldn't the assault mechs be much more difficult to knock down?

They're firing a mass of particles fired at such high speeds that they begin to experience exponential increases in mass density due to relativistic principles. That's a lot of impact force.
