Earlier today (in my time zone), Aspius, Jacob, and I tossed around the idea of forming a RP group At this point, we have not decided on details, nor do I know whether or not this will become a thing Hopefully we can share ideas/concerns around in this thread!
Oh? If it were to become a thing, how would you run it? Like on a forum, over ts/vent, meet and greet?
My lazy answer would be that that is one of the details that has yet to be decided on. Tentatively, we would probably start on TS (that's where we discussed this) If necessary, we could move it over to a forum While a meet and greet would be awesome, I imagine it would be difficult since we're basically all over the place (except Australia )
Sounds like a good idea; i used to GM games of Trudvang (a swedish rpg) over skype, and that worked fine for me.
I've been involved in a Time of War (that's the latest version of the RPG) game using MegaMek and a modified version of MekWars (the thing you can use to set up campaigns) for a few sessions now. It's worked out pretty well except for the holidays mucking up the schedule, the GM having a family issue, and him generally being really bad at communication outside the game on when/if we're playing that week. Solaris in '67 fighting for the Combine, not exactly my cup of tea, but hey, what can you do?
Id be willing to play, ive got most of my books here with me for refernce material, but I dont have Total War here, not that we need it with MegaMek, but ive got Time of War and lots of the older books if neccesary.
So the problem I always run in to, everyone wants to play, no one wants to be the GM. Anyone interested?
Ive tried DMing D&D 4th and 3.5, along with a Rogue Trader campaign, but none of them were really fun for me or the players. I am not great at improv :stung: and any gm knows you will need to improvise when your players decide to run 180* from the direction you had planned.
You also run into the issue of whether or not you make everyone be a mechwarrior/aerospace pilot, something that represents one individual unit on the table top. Or, do you let people play things like Elementals, traders, techs, lawyers, and such who can't participate if the game is played (at least in part) using, say, MegaMek.
