i think it is time the collective asian cultures get over male genitalia and embrace the twig and berries. if females have to endure chain mail bikinis and what not, i can't really complain when a dude shows up in a mankini. besides, it's good to have options and maybe sometimes I want everyone to know exactly how much breeze I'm getting between my legs.
Pre-ordered. I'll probably be playing this game on the AU or West Coast server since I plan on this just being a tide-me-over until Crowfall drops.
Now I'm REALLY not impressed. Gender locked classes and way less customization than I thought. The immersion stuff looks nice though.
They are gender locked because they are making gender equivalents for most of them. So a male ranger will play differently then a female one. Like the warrior and Valkyrie. Both are technically the same but play a bit different Only reason they shoveling the female version out first is for obvious reasons.
Decent combat mechanics. Very 'console'-y, which isn't as bad as I initially thought. Pretty cool levelling mechanic (separated into Combat, Life, and [oddly] Fishing). Warriors feel Warrior-y. Wizards feel Wizard-y. Horses feel.. Horses feel, man. Treat 'em nice. On horses: These fuckers are -important- to the game. More-so than any that have come before. For one, very important, reason: There. Is. No. Fast. Travel. Nope. None. Or maybe. I don't know. I'm only Lv17. But from what I've read, seen, and had told to me. There's no rapid transit system of loading-screens. There are, however, some -very- fast horses you can breed. Yeah. Breed your own horse. It's apparently a pretty big industry. Horsemen. Heh. The gender thing is a non issue since I can already tell they'll be dumping more classes on us soon enough. Haki is right, though. The much-touted customization nirvana we were sold is actually MUCH more shallow in actual practice. Want a Warrior? K. But it's gonna look like your typical KRPG human. Want a Beast tamer? K. But it's gonna look like a vocaloid. Want a Gandalf? "You mean 'Wizard', right Varg?" No. I mean a Gandalf. ALL Wizards look like Gandalf in this game. You can tweak some of the underlying geometry for facial features, add muscle-tone, change the skin and hair color, or even give him a Boo-Ya haircut, but it's still Ian McKellan. Just the sad, beardless, mid-life-crisis haircut Ian McK. One thing I appreciate a lot from BDO, however is their lack of a "mascot". I know we can all agree we don't want to see another of these guys. Ever. Spoiler $50 for the Explorer's package? Buy-2-Play game with no sub and a (rather anemic this early) cash shop? Digital Horseplay? Eh. If it's your thing, then go for it. It's a fun game so far, but not everyone's bag. Wait for an inevitable F2P scheme and give it a shot. It -is- a GORGEOUS engine at 30GB.
The problem for the most part is that classes are locked to race, gender, and age. So while yes the creator is very good, a wizard will always looks like a old guy because its locked into looking like a old guy. You can make the wizard look however you want as long as it looks like a gandolf clone. Also some of it comes down to being more realistic. because you wouldn't expect a 120lb woman to go swing a 50lb axe around like its a twig in other games. This is why classes are locked to genders. So while a female will be lighter they will also be quicker and more agile while the male counterpart will be heavier so hes slower but much stronger and so on. Some of the stuff in the creator is also locked as a premium which you have to unlock with real money. this is how they are also trying to not have a subscription. gift shop, cosmetics, and in game items for your houses, pets, and so on.
Blech, sounds like they neutered individuality. Is it PvP heavy, and they are trying to ensure each class has a specific silhouette?
Cant remember if its open pvp or not. Will most likely depend on server and the people on it. I think they are trying to give classes a certain silhouette but with the clothes you can buy some of the goes out the window. Weapons and gear also don't have a minimum level requirement for using it. So you can take your gear from your main and give it to a alt you want to level and as long as they can you it, your running around god mode with your new character compared to using lower end gear starting fresh. heres a good video explain some of the differences in male and female characters. this is for ninjas and kunoichi "female ninja"
