My biggest annoyance with all Civ games is the epic buildings. It is extremely annoying to be 98% of the way "researching" the Hanging Gardens of Baylon only to have someone beat me to it... and then I get nothing for the effort. The franchise has always had gimmicky rules like that. I know there are many who love the game for that, but I am definitely not a fan.

The franchise is a cornerstone of PC gaming and I would be sad to see it go, but between Stellaris, Space Engineers, Megamek, etc... I definitely won't have time for this game.

Shaping up to be a really interesting game so far... if they can get the diplomacy system working as well as Paradox does they may just be able to pull out a game that has a whole bunch of Depth without getting to bogged down in the numbers/mechanics that Paradox sometimes does. Also able to produce a game with some awesome changes and re-works of classic mechanics like unit stacking (read armadas/formations)

So I played this briefly this weekend (which since it's Civ means like half of Saturday) and I'm liking it pretty well. It'll be familiar to anybody who played the previous game, and all the diplomatic and religious systems are there so it doesn't feel like they shipped half a game, and there's enough different that it's not like B.E. where you just bought the game you already had except everything is purple and teal now.

It looks like techs unlock significantly fewer things now, which will hopefully make that less min-maxy. Policies are expanded and you now choose a government pretty early on that you develop along with your civilization. On top of that you can switch the government bonuses out once in awhile so if say +religion in your capital no longer makes sense you can switch it to +science or reduced unit maintenance or whatnot.

Cities span multiple tiles now but so far I haven't seen how that's particularly different than improvements were before. There's more variety in the bonuses they provide so that might make it more interesting later in the game when you can build more districts. Global happiness is gone thank fucking christ and now all you need is enough amenities (which like with happiness you get from luxuries or buildings) to keep your individual cities happy.

Combat's pretty much the same. AI still seems dumb as a stump. My neighbor declared war on me for no real reason and got his and his so-called "army's" shit wrecked by my one archer. Ten turns later we're best bros again also for no real reason.

The AIs have both a public and hidden agenda value that determines their priorities. Something you did probably tripped the hidden agenda flag.

I think his hidden agenda is he wants to discover things first, so it probably wasn't that since I haven't really built enough scouts. I think it's just that since there's no penalty for declaring early war the AI is pretty trigger happy, but they still don't have a good concept of how strong your military actually is. Still if you liked the last game in spite of that you'll probably like this one too.

Yea I've been playing, seems good and with depth that I haven't really delved into between culture, religion, government types, ethos, etc.

A bit more city management with the district idea where you can build specialized city districts (one square each), you can some bonuses dependent on layouts, etc.

Just got to feudalism, playing as the romans so I get free roads and trading posts, figured it was an easy to understand first game bonus. Barbarians are actually annoying early game.

I picked this up for my birthday (a week early). It is very different but very good. Some key things I noticed:

Workers have been replaced with Builders, which have a limited number of "charges" but build upgrades instantly.
Roads are built by trade routes, not by workers.
Tech and Civic research are now separate trees. These both have big boosts for completing certain prerequisites before learning the upgrades, like say build a mine and it contributes to wheel research.
A LOT of leaders in the base package, all with different advantages.

Just found out Civ 6 has been secretly installing Red Shell spyware since its release. I know we have a lot of player who enjoy the Civ series and I thought you all should be aware of this.
