I was under the impression there was some kind of loot drop thing you could buy into with real money and get random items to help suppliment the grind. It sounded awful when I heard it. But if you are saying the microtransactions really don't affect the late game and are mostly cosmetic, that certainly changes things. Totally agree with you on GTA. The grind in that was ridiculous, but made even worse when considering that players who spent real money to buy the best gear had a very REAL advantage over new players. It's a big reason why I stopped playing.

Most people aren't even talking about that, people are pissed off about the one time use shaders. Also the only thing I think that you have to pay for are the shaders, everything else is just earn able in game.
Yeah, I still don't get this who notion of full game price + day 1 launch micro-transactions. Even if the game is good. Even if the micro-transactions are all cosmetic. It just seems really shitty to put customization content behind a pay wall and still charge full price for major updates. You do one specifically so you don't have to do the other. Then again, this IS Activision we are talking about which is possibly one of the shittiest publishers ever. Even worse than EA. I feel like Destiny could be a better game if Activision stopped fucking with it.
Its more of testing the waters and see how far they can shit in it while we drink it up before we say enough is enough. NBA2k18 is the current one taking all the crap currently. As it was a full price game with multiple tiers for special editions. They give you some free virtual currency to play with, which is called VC... shit you not. The amount allows you to do nothing but test the waters and get the need for more VC. As VC is required for your personal player character to be upgraded with skills and cosmetics. The screen in which you buy currency looks straight out of those stupid greedy mobile games that lock everything behind a time lapse game mechanic or pay now and skip crap. charging 60 to 150 dollars for a game and players skills and cosmetics require real money. Welcome to the future of gaming.
One thing everyone is forgetting, this is basically an MMO. There are back end server costs to running this thing. Guild Wars 2 is a paid game and then uses micro transactions to fund things. I am not defending anything, but come on now.
Maybe they shouldnt spend half the budget in advertising like normal. Destiny 2 really needed as much advertising as it did.. Shouldnt need anything considering the following the first game had. Or spent it on better writers to make a better game. Also.. I thought it was more single player the entire story time besides a few missions/raids that can be multiplayer.

Just FYI... Nevermind the lootboxes or shady matchmaker patents, Bungie and Activision have somehow managed to fuck up with Destiny 2 again. They are pretty much eating shit now with the playerbase... and I have this news in three different flavors so take your pick: Long story short, Bungie and Activision have been lying to everyone about how much XP they gain. Basically, if you are a super casual player, you get XP really fast up to level cap, but then if you hit level cap or if you are grinding xp a lot, the game arbitrarily throttles your XP down to 5% of what you were getting before... and the game does this while lying to your face... and when some Redditors called Bungie out on it, they still lied about it to everyone. Only after irrefutable proof was put forward by said Redditors did Bungie actually own up to it. The whole thing has pretty much destroyed their credibility with everyone but their white knight crowd. It's been made pretty clear that this was all done to encourage people to buy more loot boxes. To be honest, I will never be anything but a casual player in Destiny. I will play when I know people are going to be on. So while I agree, the issues are primarily affecting the hardcore player groups. I have a feeling part of this was to try to get away from the huge grind that people had in the original game. The people that are for the most part angry about everything they have done are the people who loved that grind.
Yeah, I don't begrudge you for picking it up. I agree that this is primarily a "hardcore player" issue, but we should not dismiss what Bungie and Activision did (not really suggesting you are). Nevermind the fact that they've been manipulating the whole system to sell more loot boxes, but then they were caught... and then still LIED about it. That's why so many people are upset.
Oh no doubt, it is a better game. I played a little last night. It is not horrible but coming from the fast paced and very acrobatic Warframe, Destiny feels extremely sluggish.

Wow.. That is unreal. I think it is certainly worth $12. I have not played it in a while because the one person I was going to play with I was never able to connect with. They have supposedly made a bunch of changes are are planning to make quite a few more in the next couple months.
I picked it up. Actually really enjoying it so far. For all their faults, Activision/Bungie know how to do gun play.
