Not known to many of you, during my move to a new apartment i misplaced my external harddrive with a vast collection of documents I had accumulated over the past decade. I turned over every corner in my apartment and it is simply no where to be found. I cannot fathom where it has gone. One could say I was "very upset" to say the least. Chiefly among those documents, all of my documents and source materials regarding Battletech (the franchise) were stored on there. Twenty gigs worth of documents to be specific!

I was at the point of resignation that they would be lost to me forever when I remembered there was a way to recover old data "deleted" on harddrives. I still had my old computer where they were last saved before the transfer. So after doing a google search and downloading the correct software, I'm now looking at it again! I'm allowing the software to do a 24 hour duration scan to make sure nothing is missed, but it looks like I will be able to resurrect everything much more quickly than expected.

This means my timetable for continuing our megamek activities has stepped up substantially.

Figured you all would be happy to know.

If you're interested I've had pretty good luck with CrashPlan. I got my mom a subscription since she's pretty hard on laptops and it pretty much just works. Only problem I've had is it errors on the side of caution and backs up your AppData folder, which will chew through metered bandwidth in a hurry and usually doesn't have anything worth backing up in it. It'll back up to a hard drive or another computer for free, or to the cloud for $5/month.

The data was "recovered" and I can read the file names, but none of the files will open as they appear to be damaged beyond the point of being readable.

    :unamusedwhale:

I may have to hire a professional at this point.
