The Iron Harvest is coming... and with it come the Steampunk mechs Based on the game/artwork of the SCYTHE universe. http://iron-harvest.com/
This game is going in my library as soon as I am financially able to put it there... and the game is finished, of course.
Been following the guys art work for a while on that bases alone i will buy the game. My nipples tingle with wild abandonment.
The artwork and story seem awesome. What didn't like was how the mech just sprinted and leaped over part of a building. I personally don't think that type of movement matches with the look and feel of these mechs. They look like they would be big, slow and clumsy, but incredibly powerful. So when the mech just sprinted and leaped like an Olympic athlete it just didn't jive in my brain.
it doesn't look that way to me, it looks more to me like it positioned itself, activated some form of high pressure jump system, and then recovered on the other side with a jet of steam to release some of the excess pressure generated for the vault. The little jitter at the beginning is probably just to position it so that it can use both legs on the jump rather than trying to spring forward off of one.
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/kingartgames/iron-harvest/description Its already funded, the company has a few successfull kickstarters already, looks pretty decent. Probably won't back it myself as I'm finding myself playing less RTS games these days, but maybe some of yall are interested.
8===D MERGED C===8 I'm definitely leaning towards supporting this. This game reminds me of old Relic games (the good ones).
UPDATE! (kind of late, but) Game seems to be maturing nicely. Looks like we will have a true spiritual successor to Company of Heroes after all.
I'm increasingly worried that Iron Harvest may not live up to the pedigree of Company of Heroes... I suggest waiting on the reviews.
The more and more I see of this game, the less and less I like the style of movement for some of the mechs. The mechs look like they're supposed to be slow, powerful, plodding death machines, but then I see some of them move like they're on a mechanized gymnastics team. It's very off-putting.
Just a follow up to this. In short: Unfortunately still a lesser game compared to better alternatives (ex. CoH), but better than it was. Personally, besides strictly cosmetic differences (Mechs), I don't think this game does anything really better than older games I already own. I'm passing on this one. Your mileage may vary.
