That game that Chris Roberts has mentioned working with has launched the alpha of their game. They're currently being blacklisted by many gaming media sites, since they've said they support #GamerGate, so I wanted to make sure people knew, since I'd heard people say they were interest in it before. Plus, it's just a pretty boss looking game. Kingdom Come: Deliverance
this looks cool but I'm totally confused by this gamergate thing. i tried looking it up and i'm still confused. someone care to explain what people are butthurt about? i know that misogyny and sexism are bad. i would ask why this is even a controversy, but then john q. public tends to always find new ways to be fucking retarded so... EDIT: I read this.. http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/events/gamergate and I'm still confused. this sounds like something more complicated than can be explained here. disregard my previous request for an explanation. all i know for sure is that assholes are being assholes... also, that twitter is fucking terrible and should be avoided at all cost.
Shit. Sorry. I just remembered people talking about it. I should have been more thorough looking for it.
The G.Gate thread has more info on the topic, but if someone "supports" G.Gate, they are on the side of gamers and against those in the media trying to defame this "culture". Thus, proving themselves an enemy of the media that provides them with exposure and rating. Kingdom Come: Deliverance (cue the banjo), according to Ben, supports G.Gate. That makes them pretty okay in my book. I just wish the game had at least a pinch of multiplayer ala Borderlands or Diablo (drop-in/support as opposed to MMO or dedicated game mode with exclusive saves).
Gamergate is kind of tricky. On one hand there's the part of the movement that are what they say they are - fighting against corrupt media and behind the doors dealings between publishers and media and trying to combat the weird stunts such as game media organizing attacks against gamer culture. The opponents of it say that they're all misogynist terrorists. The thing is, there may be some misogynists within the wider movement, but then again there are death threats from the opponents of gamergate as well even though they claim to be pro-equality and opposing threats and terrorism and whatever. Think of Japanese Empire accusing the US during WW2 as 'immoral' for causing collateral damage with their bombings. Also, Gamergate is difficult because as a fledgling developer I have a hard time supporting it loudly because it could lead to being shunned by games media and potential publishers also being cautious around it for fear of having media backlash from cooperating with someone who opposes media. There's that thing about how media in general has seen revenues dwindle while new media sources have been arising to compete for the market share, so competition has been getting tougher while incomes have dwindled and at the same time people nowadays expect and want free news and quality articles. One solution for this has been to simply move from selling advertisement space to turning the news themselves into marketing for new revenues from the publishers. It is most likely that the publishers have had a heavy impact on these developments themselves since it has been reported for more than a decade that publishers have become increasingly aggressive towards media, nowadays often not even allowing media to test the games freely but instead calling them to controlled environments to test carefully selected portions of the game under supervision and guidance. Also there have been all sorts of legal binding towards games media for years and also things like if a games magazine does not play ball they will be denied previews of certain publishers new releases, a major blow since at that point such a magazine or site will be among the last to provide reviews for the game. So it is understandable that this has been happening but gamers do not need to accept it. Media being media and having media's coverage are in a good position to attack anyone coming between them and their money.
Totally forgot this game comes out here this year. Need to go check what package I got. I think it was around 120 U.S. Dollar
If so you have access to Beta, I have it downloaded just haven't had time to really play it much. Sword combat seems... complex.
Yeah, same here. The sword combat system actually looks pretty good (and I'm picky as hell about that stuff), but I haven't messed around inside the system much.
Yeah excited to finally have the real medieval experience. Only ever having a bath 1 to 2 times in your entire life time. Being infested with parasites, worms and lice normally. Covered in fleas and flies. Drinking the same water you piss and shit into. Working 12 to 16 hours a day for 9 months out of the year so you can stock up on food for winter. Starving because you ran out of food during winter. Being angry because you have to give about 10 to 15 % of what ever you make to your king, along with paying taxes, and then also giving about 20 to 30% to the church. having children none stop because they normally die within 4 years. Not naming your children until they can finally walk and talk. Having the king force himself onto your wife because... hes the king. having to live in a house made of sticks and then plastering the stick walls with a mix of clay, hay, and animal shit. having to bring all your animals into your home at night because of wild animal predation and humans are assholes and steal shit that aint theres. having your ass itchy and chaffed as hell because toilet paper doesn't exist. yes the life in medieval times was.. the shit..
