So, my Lenovo Y510 has finally reached the point where she can't play current games comfortably anymore. She served a solid three years of hard work and long hours, and it's about time she retired. The problem is, I'm pretty computer retarded and I don't know where to go from here. My first instinct is to stick with what I know and upgrade to the Lenovo Y700 series gaming Laptop. The version I'm looking at the $1,049.99 one. I'm really not looking to spend more than $1,100, and I'm pretty sold on the Y700. But I'm worried there might be something better out there waiting to be found. So, I turn to you guys for suggestions, whom I'm hoping know significantly more about computers than I do.
I just got this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA1N83UF6077&cm_re=ge62-_-34-152-945-_-Product Couldn't be happier. World of Warcraft, Mechwarrior Online, The Division....full screen, ultra settings. smooth as butta. Couldnt be happier. I know it's about $400 more than you are looking at but wow..this is a great system. And considering I have not upgraded my desktop in over 5 years it's a huge jump.
I went with the MSI GS30 Shadow just before they discontinued it in Jan. It was also about $400 more than you were looking at spending but... it has one advantage that sets it apart from others. There is an optional dock that you can buy with it which has a built in usb 3.0 hub, audio connections, full size hard drive bay, and most importantly a power supply to allow you to run any full sized desktop graphics card you want. It uses a full speed PCI connector instead of the slower 4x PCI interface that alienware use on their latest docking system. While the GS30 has integrated intel graphics for the ultra book, the newer GS40 model which is replacing it jumps to a 6th gen i7 and a mobile gtx970 I think or a mobile gtx960 for mobile gaming (not all GS 40 models are dock compatible so you have to be careful on them) While my GS30 has the older 4th gen i7 and integrated video, its still plenty fast for quite a while to come and if I do end up stepping up to the GS40 my dock is compatible with both and I will be able to upgrade from my dual gpu 760 card to the new pascal down the road and still run triple monitors or even vr without any issues.
