    Yes, I said that word.

Just curious if anyone else has played it. Hell, I wondering if anyone else has even heard of it.

Played it a little bit. Didn't really like it, especially how they named different mechs even though it was the same design just different weapons loadouts. Or just hop out of one mech and jump in another.

Idk, that series kinda bastardized Mechwarrior for me...

Well if you want to be specific it was Mech Assault 2 in a different wrapper set in the dark age.

    To me:
MA1 was OK (Its actually what got me into battletech in the first place)
MA2 from purely a game stand point it was great, but I thank god that it is technically not completely canon

Also: Why do people hate that series so much? I honestly want to know.

I don't see it because it got me into BT and understand that it was a mech-based third person shooter

    Where to begin...

First off, the fact that it wasn't canon was a big turnoff...or at least shouldn't have been. It pretty much ripped everything that was mechwarrior and threw it in a corner of a room and called it a game. Not to mention your mech could stomp around, get beat up and it would be ok because there were health-things you could walk over and bam you're healed again. I personally hated that, because it game no sense of preservation of your mech. Plus, you could hop out of your mech at any time and just grab a new one. idk, that really killed things for me.

I agree with Damon and would also add if you started out with the Mechwarrior games which are more sim-type and stick as close as the technology would allow to canon, the over the top arcade-iness of the Mechassault series is just painful.

Havent played it, and the youtube clips ive seen made me wince.

heres the thing: on its own merit im sure its a perfectly good game. But why did they have to do it battletech? It just doesnt fit in with battletech at all, and far more BT fans might enjoy it more if it had not been battletech.

Was Phantom War the PSP/portable/thingamajig one?

I never played any of the MA games, but like Caradepato, just watched videos. A lot of it seemed "okay" from a "oh, that's nice for them, they made an arcade game" point of view. It seemed more like they had a game already conceived, realized they had the Mechwarrior license, and then decided to slap on a coat of Battletech over their anime mech game.

The health thing is mostly because every thing did/had the potential to do too much damage. I have to agree with the mech hopping in 2 that just made me facepalm. I can understand hacking the mech to force the pilot to eject as being "possible" but how do you pilot that mech again with no seat -_-

I would also like to add that what turned me off to it later was the amount of mechs you could face at one time and win, and that it never felt like you were piloting tons of metal death like mechwarrior 3.

What pissed me off about Mech assault the most was the total lack of customization, and the fact that rotating the torso was handled just like a first person shooter, it felt more like CoD than it did Mechwarrior2.
