I used MagicDisc to mount, then the MechVM to import and play.

Whats the difference between the titanium and battlepack versions?

Ok so now I can launch MW2: Merc (titanium), MW2: Mercs (MechVM Shell + Titanium Sim), or MW2: Mercs (Battlepack/Titanium 8-bit).

No luck for me. Couldn't find my old discs.
I suspect my wife threw them out last time we moved. :shiftyeye:

Ugh, this is starting to piss me off. I installed the Titanium version and it works perfectly, except for some reason my monitor thinks the comp has shut off and goes into sleep mode after 20 seconds. I've tried everything I can think of and can't make it stop doing that.

Then I tried installing the DOS/WIN version of MW2:Mercs but it has the "mission fail" bug, so no good there either.

At this point I think the Titanium version is my best bet, I just need some ideas on how to stop the monitor sleep thing.

Have you tried sending a PM to some of the folks on the MechVM site? They seem to do a fair bit of troubleshooting (when they come out of the woodwork).

Got my Mercs disc loaded and played for an hour or two last night. The flavor text / mission briefings are better than I had even remembered, and the 'mech management is sweet. I actually like that longer campagins lock you out from customization and require you to repair with only the parts you have on hand.

The AI / gameplay make me appreciate MW:O more... Oh, and the best part was when I reflexively tried to use WASD and promptly shut down in front of two enemy mechs.

If you read all the stickied posts from the form linked from the first post there are a number of versions that don't work well. Seems the one that is the best is just the dos version.

Yeah, I read through all the stickies and such. Unfortunately, the straight DOS version won't work at all on my comp. Go figure. Supposedly the Titanium version is the worst, but it actually works really well for me (even runs full screen), the damn monitor just won't stay on.

HAHA! I almost forgot about that. Don't they use the arrow keys or something weird?

Yep, arrow keys or torso-locked joystick was what I used back in the day. Number keys set throttle position.

Do you have power save mode on? Being that this is an older game it can't be too demanding on your newer processor. If the processor isn't be taxed enough, the computer may be assuming it's idle, thus switching to sleep mode.

Control-scheme-wise I can't be bothered to dig out my joystick (I know, sacrilege). Been doing better using numpad to move around and spacebar / (< >) for torso twisting and shooting.

'Mechs feel extraordinarily fragile without double armor, but there are also some weird glitches with hit detection where I can pump dozens of medium laser blasts into a Javelin's leg, see the impacts, and eventually just give up and blast the torso in one alpha. If memory serves, medium pulse lasers are absolutely beastly and melt faces (and your mech) in seconds.

Looking forward to the Solaris tournament campaign and the invasion of the clans... think I'll play through the whole thing over the next few weeks.

MPLs + LRMs was the go-to combo. As many as you could pack.

I want to try to play through with much more conservative and canon loadouts. Adjusted some but definitely balanced.

Winning (it works). Still not sure which version I should be running.

Although I get a weird graphics glitch everytime I exit a mission (just did 2 training ones) where the debrief screen goes all cga graphics on me and is illegible. Once I exit it, it turns back to normal but I can't see anything regarding debriefing which is aggravating and probably will be an issue if I start my own merc group.

I had that same deal going on. I only played some of the training campaign so it didn't bother me much but I want to look into it this weekend before I get into the meat of the contracts.

Nah, it's the monitor itself that's shutting off. My computer doesn't sleep for like 2 hours if it's inactive, and I don't even have a screensaver turned on. This is happening every 20-30 seconds. I turn it off and back on and get another 30 seconds before it sleeps again.

Got joystick working. Chassis movement on stick, torso twist on rudder, works pretty well. I have a training mission bug where it won't recognize you've completed the mission, oh wells.

I used the disc image program they recommend on the VMware forums without any issues.
