    You could always run a virtual pc with a older windows OS that is capable of playing the game.

    actually I'm not quite sure if it is, in this case. DOS is a 16 bit operating system so I assume MW2mercs is also a 16 bit program. I don't think having it in the 32 bit folder will help... though I've never tried running a 16 bit program so I may be wrong.

    I think I tracked it down. The 95 version is busted. Need to use the DosBox version. But for that, I need a CD image. This is the version I have:

    Any better suggestion for cd image creation than Alcohol? This is what you need Alcohol for:
    1. Start Alcohol 120%
    2. Make sure your Mercenaries CD is in the drive.
    3. On the left, click "Image Making Wizard".
    4. Select the correct DVD/CD Device, and leave all of the settings alone.
    5. At the bottom of the screen, make sure the "Datatype:" dropdown box is set to "Customize". Click "Next".
    6. It doesn't matter where you save the image, but name it "MERCENARIES".
    7. Make sure the "Image Format" is "CDRWIN Image file (*.cue)".
    8. Click "Start", and wait for the process to finish.

    That's pretty much the same process as creating an image with Daemon Tools. No idea which is better though.

    The key point seems to be you need a .cue file. I'm having trouble creating this. A lot of free options offer .bin versions, but that does not seem to work the same.

    Ok, I'm a little confused.

    What is the file format of the MW2 Disc?

    What file format does the disc image need to be in to work with dosbox/MechVM?

    Are you saying you need for the disc to be *.cue to work with alcohol, or that you need to create a *.cue file from the disc?

    You have to make an "image" of the whole cd in .cue format (think something vaguely similar to compressing a whole folder into .zip format). This is required to get the DosBox version working. The 95 version of Mec2: Mercs does not require it, but does not seem to work correctly either.

    I managed to destroy both a gargoyle and a panther while piloting a commando. I took 6 points of damage.

    I think there's something wrong with the AI in this game...

    I solved the graphics shit on the debrief screen. Just save your game while on the screen, when you go back in, it should be fine.

    FYI if anyone is getting a garbled debrief screen after a mission, go into the menu (don't exist the debrief screen), click on a menu that takes you to a different screen like control layout, then exit that screen to come back to debrief and it will be normal and legible. Its a clunky work around but it works.

    Yea the AI in this game does not deal well with you circle strafing them, they miss every time. They pretty much can only hit you if you run in a straight line at them.
