By the time a year is passed, I expect I'll have moved on to something else. Not even sure if I'll ever pick it up now.

Only if it is 75% off.

So PGI has a D minus rating with the BBB.

Yeah. I initiated the refund process. It wasn't much money, I only bought the $50 pack, but it is the principle. If you tell your customers something, stick to it. I cannot support Epic Store and I won't. If they change their mind and make it on Steam as initially promised, we are good to go.

Can't even see if they changed something. I think their website is down.

very tempted to try and use change.org for this, get a poll going of how many mechwarrior players will not be playing at all, thanks to Epic.

You know what's even shittier? That I first saw this in a post on FACEBOOK. I don't see an e-mail. At least snapshot games (Phoenix Point) sent an email the same day if not the same time. That seems really shifty to me PGI. Not letting consumers know through email so they then miss the refund date.

Also PP sent out an email of the change that backers would get a steam/GoG key in addition to Epic.

It probably boils down to an exclusivity agreement between PGI and Epic. If it were available through Steam (preferred) or GoG I wouldn't have canceled.

Not happy here. Very much not happy. I have zero reason to install yet another game management software that bogs my system down with junk.

Even worse. Epic is actually spyware. And gets information from steam.

I have heard it being spyware from a few places and discussion in Facebook groups. Where does that report come from? Just curious why it isn't as public as it should be or are they all spyware now days?

They've been caught where their store copies a file from steam that has your friends list, every game in your library, when you last played and so on. Also saw something that epic got credit information from steam. And since they are partially owned by tencent (40% stake in epic I think).

It essentially data mines for the Chinese government.

This reddit is decent (but I know even less than the guy who started it.)

Theres alot of stuff if you google about how shady epic is.

To be fair, how much information tencent (and the Chinese gov't) gets is all hearsay at this point, but the problem is that there is no guarantee it is not happening. That's why a lot of people are saying "fuck it. not worth the risk" regarding that.

At the very least, it certainly doesn't instill confidence in me for Epic.

Yeah. From what I read even for the people who do know (they used to hack, or network analysis, malware stuff) they don't even know how much epic is actually getting. I mean probably all of them (not just steam, but origin, ubisoft's and so on) do it to some extent. But not in the competition's files.

Do we have a deadline for refunds yet? My plan is to send an email directly to customer service on why I will be cancelling my order if they cannot guarantee an eventual Steam Key. My hope is to hold out a little longer for a reversal on the "no key" decision.

But I don't want to do that without knowing the deadline for refunds.

From the FAQ on Mw5 website.
    • Yes, we will be granting the refunds for everyone who wishes to refund their pre-order and submitted a refund request by September 1st, 2019 00:00 UTC. Once the transaction has been refunded, you will not receive any keys for MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries, including the game itself, beta access or digital content. You may keep all of the MWO bonus items if redeemed.

    Also forgot about this.

I think the 88/12 split epic has right is only for years. After it will probably go to the 70/30 everyone else is doing.

I figured it was more lucrative to do Epic, but I wouldn't do exclusive. Where PGI is making 88% vs 65% (after the 30, and 5% Unreal licensing). That is more money.

However, it is only more money if the sales justify it. I have heard a LOT of people really upset about this. Are they going to lose money overall? That is the real question.

Also probably most of the preorders want it on steam. Will they get enough new blood on epic? probably not.

Also this will hurt them in the preorders I'm guessing they got 100% of the profit. But if they have to refund at least half of those. And 25% of that half never pick it up (forget it exists after the exclusivity ends, refuse to buy it.) another 25% do buy after at full price but even on epic store it is still less than 100%. the last 50% buys but after the 1 year exclusive but only when it is on sale (or elsewhere not on Epic). Just does not seem worth it. especially if Epic probably only bought exclusive right for a few million. If Epic gave them 2 million and they have to refund 5000 preorders, even at the lowest (I think $50) that is still a quarter million. And that is probably a really low estimate. So unless Epic offered 10 million or more I don't see this as having been worth it. 5,000 refunds is a really low estimate. I'm sure it is way way higher than that.

If you are like me and can’t remember what came with the preorder packages you bought, hopefully this chart helps.

I'm getting my couple million dollars from Epic from this.

Phoenix Point's Epic Store exclusivity deal is worth $2.25 million, says Fig investor

    https://www.pcgamer.com/phoenix-poi...is-worth-dollar225-million-says-fig-investor/

So yeah if PGI spent most of the money they made from pre orders already and only got roughly 2 million from epic and have to refund a large portion of that they will still be hurting. They might be better off still but nowhere near as flush as they thought they would be.

And I can't see MW 5 being worth much more to epic than Phoenix point. 3 million at most.
