truthfully airbrushes are really best simply for the speed at which they can be used, though for freehand work unless you have some artistic experience you can make and test stencils before you apply them to a model, it's far more difficult to paint an image repeatedly until you can get it right.
Any one know where to get custom water decals made? debating on making a small Space Marine army of around 800 to 1000 points but I paint all my stuff non standard colors. need decals to go with the paint scheme. basically I want to mix armies when I want now since you can do that.
didn't look that closely into the mechanics of it, I rather doubt it specifically needs to be an inkjet but a little research into the process could yield more details as to what and why, and whether you actually need an expensive printer or if you could simply use a moderate photo printer. edit: that was also only one of many different videos providing a way to accomplish what you asked, simply the first one I clicked on. just google custom water transfer decals.
Reason for the 300 to 400 dollar inkjet printer is because you need professional quality prints that can handle very small fine details. A 200 dollar could do but the finer details will be a bit more blurred and since these are miniatures the finer the details the better. I was just trying to find if there was a company for miniatures, the only thing I can find is stuff for railroad, guitars, and stickers. And I don't even think a 400 dollar printer can even print white, need a few thousand dollars for one of those I think. Good thing I only need warm colors printed.
printing white might not be likely, but you can probably find decals that are white backed instead of clear. Fine detail may be an issue but I expect that'll be a contention no matter how you go, cost/reward etc...
Finally got my ass in painting gear. Have been spending a couple of weeks finishing up a unit of bane Thralls for my Cryx army. The bases have only been given a base coat and highlights, so still some work to go there, before it's a finished swamp-themed base. Lighting was not optimal, but I will be back with some more pics, when the bases are done
Dihm and I went to GenCon this past week and played some Flames of War! I did good, and Dihm got Best Painted for his Late War army! http://www.flamesofwar.com/Default.aspx?tabid=53&art_id=5283
your definition of "did good" is amusing, nicely done for both of you!! Wish they had more pictures of the armies to drool over.
Not great pickingtures. I roll horribly. And I am hyper aggressive with my infantry. So they are led by Skaven. Cause fuck you man-things. DIE-DIE
I should be playing Soviet criminal conscript hordes with elite troop second line troops. HMMMM I do enjoy shooting my own troops. I just didn't want to paint or push around that many stands of infantry. And they can't night attack. And Locusts.
