It's hardly a Korean thing. The gaming community and MOBAs in particular are home to some of the most toxic pukestains on the Internet. How the fuck anybody grows up not knowing that doxing and death threats and swatting are not acceptable period let alone as a response to losing at video games is just beyond me.

The reason i say more seriously because the whole E-sports thing started in korea and home to more then a few death by exhaustion cases because of gaming.

mobas are horrible because its a game with total anonymity, you get in a game and you are out, zero world persistence to keep players in check like in mmorpgs.

A person being stupid is mildly regrettable, but unremarkable and usually little cause for concern or interest.

Large herds of people being stupid in a semi-coordinated fashion and mutually supporting/validating each others' behaviors can get real dangerous real fast. (And if you don't believe me, lets get some folks liquored up and go a few laps on Old Vanderval...)

Sure, I have quite a few thoughts I can share. Pick and choose what you like.

    • First, let's understand something key to Zarya: shields.
      • Half her health consists of shields, and shields recharge at a rate of 25/sec after not taking damage for 3 seconds. That's pretty damn fast.
    • Play the edges of the field.
      • This is related to the point about her shields. If you think about it, that mechanic lends her to hit and run actions, or brawling skirmishes. You don't full commit with Zarya and dive straight in; you play the edges. This allows you to do two things: provide powerful and sustained flanking action and a better vantage of the field to view your allies.
    • Understand her left click and how to use it.
      • Right clicking to victory is not the way she works. You can sustain fire for 5 sec before a reload, and it has a range of 15m. It begins at 75 DPS, but grows in strength by 1% per charge point. Fully charged, her left click deals roughly 150 DPS (one of the highest amounts in the game) to a singleish target. I say singleish because the beam is wide enough at those levels that you can realistically hit multiple enemies that are close enough. You can just melt people with your beam and people underestimate the range. I use this all the time to take pharahs out of the sky, melt tanks, and punish bad tracers.
      • Fun fact, her beam attack pierces through a D.Va defense matrix. Not so fun fact- D.Va's defense matrix will eat your Ult if she "catches" it with the matrix.
    • Understand her right click and how to use it.
      • Damage is 45-95 damage depending on charge and hits everything within 2m. Time between shots is 1 full second, and each blast consumes 25 ammo. The plasma orb is really best used when you're working with multiple enemies in close proximity to one another (trapped in your ult for example), enemies at a distance, or an exceptionally mobile enemy like a good tracer or a genji.
      • You can fire this even if you do not have 25 ammo. For example, I often beam an enemy until I have 10 or less ammo and then lob the plasma at them to finish off my clip and maximize damage.
    • She's all about situational awareness.
      • You need to be able to read the field (both your team and the enemy) to be able to determine where to fling your barriers to get the most charge and do the most good. While I think Bunny's response was more tongue in cheek, I disagree with it quite a bit. While the ally-barrier is on a fairly short CD (8 sec), just spamming it continually frequently leaves you high and dry when you or your glassy dps needs it most. It is worth much more to hold onto it for an extra 2-3 seconds to both save your reaper and get a full charge rather than just throwing it on the nearest ally on the off chance they take damage during a chaotic team fight.
      • I especially recommend holding it if you know the enemy has one of those game changing ults like reaper, junkrat, pharah, or even a mei (barrier prevents freezing while active, and allows you to move out of her ult unimpeded) ready to use.
    • Know when to pop your your own shield.
      • Generally enemies (especially at any decently high level games) will avoid shooting you while your shield is up. Counter this by popping your barrier after they've already engaged with a few shots.
      • Look for opportunities to eat charge.
        • Reinhart's fire strike, junk rat's tire, tolbjorn turrets, and even things like a widow's gas mines- all of these sources and more are great opportunities for you to eat charge via a damage source that, once set in motion, the enemy can't do anything to stop.
    • Zarya really shines as an offtank
      • Given the sheer amount of damage that she deals, and the way her shields function, she really does take on more of the role of an offtank. She can function as a primary tank (and really is pretty universally beneficial to a team's composition), but she pairs well with a roadhog, winston or reinhart.
      • In the event you are maintanking as Zarya while trying to push a chokepoint, your role becomes something more akin to a middle linebacker. More often than not, you'll read the line, pop your own shield, a shield on your nearest ally, and lead the charge into the breach. In this scenario she pairs best with deep invasion/ high mobility offense heroes like tracer and genji.
      • If you're trying to hold a point defensively, you'll want to play on the forward edges (play the corners along the escort path). Don't overextend into the middle like you would on a reinhart with your shield up. You're not a reinhart. You'll die. Instead play to the left/right of that chokepoint and occasionally expose yourself when your barrier is up so you can gain charge, deal damage, and then pull back to take on more of an area denial method.
        • For the sake of example imagine King's Row defense- first point. I play primarily on the right hand side against the stone wall of that first chokepoint. When my barrier is ready, I expose myself, pop the barrier a second later, eat charge, and attack for a few seconds. Then I fall back behind the wall. I also periodically shield my allies who hold the wall with me. So you're alternating between aggressively striking out (causing them to retreat or punishing them for overextension) and assuming an area-denial defenisve posture by backing out and trying to lure them in. This is possible at multiple places in literally all escort/assault point maps (so basically everything except the couple king of the hill maps like Ilios).
    Hope that helps!
